1979 RX-7 Transmission Question

I would like to have the transmission replaced in my 1979 Mazda RX-7. Any suggestions on the best way to have this work done? Is it possible to purchase a new or rebuilt transmission for a 79? Is a Mazda dealership a good place to have this work done?

I would appreciate any comments or suggestions.

I live in Michigan.

Thanks

Is it manual or auto? The best way to have it done is to do it yourself (the dealership will rip you off). It is not that hard and may only take about a half a day. People on this forum will sell you a nice used transmission for a resonable price. I have a 79 also and it is real easy and the tranny is not very heavy. If you have a manual make sure you change the clutch when you change the tranny if you dont know when the last time it was changed. Hope this helps some. Oh yeah, buy a haynes manual it will help you out in time of need.
