Price: good, bad, or about right...
Hello. I am thinking of purchasing a 84 gsl-se. I was wondering if anyone would comment on the seller's requested price.
~180,000 miles on chassis. ~30,000 on rebuild
Terrible paint (different color door, horrible oxidation everywhere else: no shine possible), but only 2 tiny spots of rust visible
AC works, cd player, dark grey interior with moderate wear
Drove it, and it felt strong, but I have no basis of comparison.
nonstock 15" wheels with decent tires
metal sunroof
No PS
all stock mechanically
car was originally from CA so I would assume the rust is almost a non-issue.
The seller wants $2,000.
So considering that I would HAVE to get it repainted does it sound like an otherwise reasonable price? This would be my primary mode of transportation (though I can use transit to get to work).
I already sold my car so I am making my final decision soon as to buy this car or finance a 3rd gen. Adding up stuff I would like to do the the 1st gen earlier today I quickly eclipsed about $6,000 so I am trying to figure out what I am better off doing. I would be autocrossing on a regular basis (have to learn how to drive a rear wheel drive car...
) as well. No car payment would be nice.
I guess I will stop rambling now. Thanks.

Mine had oxidizing paint, no rust, and 70k miles on the original engine, good interior and everything is mechanically sound, mine had new tires, but no cd player, just stock cassette, I payed $1990.
It sounds a bit high, but the motor alone probably cost him close to $2000, so he may or may not take less. I'd offer him $1500 and see if he bites it.

Great guys. Thanks for the advice. It seemed high to me, but I had seen a lot of SEs go for >$4k.
I have a feeling that he is firm on that price. Decisions, decisions...
