Question Where can I mount the turbo?

I was wondering if you could mount a turbo on a 12a header instead of getting a special turbo header. I guess I would have to go pretty far back cause there is two pipes for a while, but I was wondering if anybody has done it or knows if it can be done. I got every thing else figured out. I can get a turbo(and intercooler if I want) for thirty bucks each at a junkyard.

Thanks, Ryan

In the passenger seat seems like a cool place . I remember one car had the turbos clear at the back bumper, but it seemed kind stupid IMO.

In short, NO!

In long, it would cost more in both the short and long run, if you could even get the turbo to fit down there. Rememeber that you've got to pipe the exaust from it (the exhaust leaves the turbo at a right angle to the direction it went in), then you've got the intake pipes, and the oil lines. On the oil drain you'd have to put an external oil pump to drain the now lower-than-the-oil-pan turbo.

Heck I know the guys who do it, their in my town... they mount it behind the rear axle. I'm still adamant about how stupid an idea it is regardless of the number of nut-swingers around here who think otherwise. Turbines need hot, fast-moving, pressurized air to run well. Placing the turbine where the exhaust has slowed and cooled is bad. Basically, to make it work they stick a small T4 turbine on a 5.7 liter engine. Thats a good turbine for 13B's but on a 5.7L V8?!? An all that so the can avoid using a intercooler (a reason that's a laugh and a half by itself!)
