What The ? Carb?fuel pump?possessed?

When I 've been driving even at 65mph the car drags, loses RPM's to 0, then it will drive for 15 minutes with RPM at 0, then die out. I have to wait for 5 to 10 minutes to start it up again. Sometimes the RPM tac will register some times it won't. Most of the time it will start up again, some times it won't start up until a half hour.

I'm going nuts trying to figure it out !
Thanks,
Pat

Sounds like a coil problem. The tac is connected to the leading ignition coil IIRC. So if your tac dies then your car dies shortly thereafter, it sounds like either a problem with the coil itself (most likely) or perhaps the wiring to/from the coil.

Anyone wanna back me up on this one?

Yeah, it's a coil or it's an ignitor or the wiring associated with those two.

Easy thing to try. Remove the ignitors and squeeze some heat sink paste between them and the dizzy housing. 20-year-old paste will not doa good job anymore. It sounds like something needs to cool off before you can start it. In any case, putting new heat sink paste is a Good Thing. Only $3 - $4 at Radio Shack for a little tube.

If this doesn't work, try swapping ignitors, leading to trailing and vice-versa.

trailing ignitor trips the tach circuit, btw.

Sure your plug wires are all on correct plugs

I'm going with demonic possession.

Just make out a check to "Rev. Wankelguy" and I'll say a prayer for you. The more you send, the harder I'll pray.

On the serious side, it almost sounds like a dirty fuel filter save for the tach wierdness. Try disconnecting the tach send wire altogether so that the tach can't have any effect on the system and see what happens.
