my a2w intercooler is done.
well I finally finished my a2w intercooler project.
the main reason I went a2w set up.
1 no money for FMIC
2 I don't want block the air flow to radiator
3 I like making things.
parts.
GMC typhoon,cyclone intercooler core(I forgot the size
but it's pretty big for a2w).
biggist heater core I found(10*10*2)
mercedes axu water pump.
hoses.
well i spend about 400 dollars.
the results are.
1psi boost gain.
car cools alot better (i guess even stock intercooler blocked air flow from radiator.
I don't have PFC so I won't say anything about the
intake temp but I knew any thing is better than stock.
of course there is down side
no show , more potential of failure and may a little heavy
than FMIC.
but I'm pretty happy so far and now I can run 12psi with out worries about stock intercooler.

Looks like a pretty good idea, but I'd be interested in seeing before and after air temps. Any chance you're getting a gauge or PFC soon?

it's 9*5*4 inch with out end tanks.
I picked at ebay for 180.
but usually it goes less.
I tried to find something bigger but according to spearco
it should be way enough for 350 which is my target.

Great idea. Should do some measurements like pressure drop, temperature drop etc.
That Bosch pump is similar to the aux electric water pump used in the VW VR6 or Mercedes 280D. It pumps 6 gal per minute (unpressurized system) and should be good for a long time, at least 25,000 miles if you use it continuously. On the VR6, at 25% duty, supposedly lasts 50,000 miles.

may be I'll try to hook up the volt meter on the stock
air temp sensor wire later.
the weight of course it's heaver than stock but also FMIC is heavy too it take about a half gallon of water
and core is about 10-15 pounds and heater core is a little heaver than stock oil cooler.
I don't know exact pressure drop but I gained 1~1.5psi over the stock so if some know the drop on the stock
one we can calculate I guess.
yea the pump I found many a2w guys use this pump
they said it suppose to last 2000 hours countinus use.
this is mercedes AUX pump and I only paid 75US.
If someone worried about pump life he can put temp S/W so it can run when fluid gets hot.
good thing about this pump is it's making just enough
noise when I turn the key on I hear the pump running
but as soon as I start I only hear roar of rotary so I can make sure pump is ok before I start the car.

You definitely deserve a pat on the back for doing all of that yourself .
How do you plan on dealing with heat soak? I can't imagine that an air to water setup will work for hard street driving/roadracing applications, which is my primary concern.......

I don't really worry about heat soak.
first traffic is not really bad here.and second a2w intercooler doesn't really have to have a heat soak because
when the car is idling turbo outlet temp is way lower than when it is boosting because it's not compressed and this air keep the water temp moderate of course
it's hotter than when it's moving but it's lower than
boosted air.
of course it would heat soak more than FMIC but should be same like big smic.

Just kidding, that looks like a good setup. I'd like to have a larger heat exchanger though. I've thought about using a motorcycle radiator when I build one.
