Can you swap out the 85mph speedo?

In this '79 I'm looking at, I was wondering if you can swap out the 85mph speedo with a higher one.
When did they start putting speedos in with a higher top speed on them, and will they swap into a '79?

I would think you can do this, you'd have to get your speedo recalibrated though, right?

Anyone else with input on this?

I swapped mine. You're gonna need a gauge cluster from an 80. Otherwise, none of the plugs on the back will match up. And no, you don't need to get it recalibrated.

I have an American '79, and it has the 130 mph speedo. How the heck did the one you're looking at get the low-speed one?

Anyhow, like Chef said, you'll need a '79 or '80 speedo because of the added instumentation on the later model clusters that won't plug into your harness.

All you need is the speed-o from an 83, remove the whole thing, you could get away with using another guage face , but use all of the 83's, and keep the guage cluster from the 79, just install the whole 83 speed-o. Just have to be VERY carefull when pulling off the guage needle's.

I don't know why this car has an 85 mph speedo. I wonder if it's original.
Thanks for the ideas.

My '80 came with an 85 mph speedo. I replaced it with a 120 mph speedo from a '79 Limited Edition. The dial was the same color (B&W) and everything.
