Comfort: Leather VS. R1 Suede

So then I was thinking about the leather seats in my FD. They're pretty nice n all. Not like the thick and plush leather seats in my dad's 740iL which are more comfy.

I've tried to compare my leather seats to the an FD R1's suede seats. They are more firm, hold you in more, less sliding around. I think the leather seats are a bit easier to maintain and clean up because the suede texture are more prone to stains and what nots.

Which one of these do you guys like more?
Will the R1 suede seats get all super hot in the summer time?

i have black leather in my car and i love it, i can leave my car in the sun all day and my seats only feel hot for a few seconds, then they are comfortable. For normal temp days with out the sun blasting, there is no substitute for the comfort and the feel of the leather. One thing i find sorta wierd is, i think the tan leather seats are accually more comfortable then the black leather, is this wierd or do you guys feel the same?

I find the R2 seats pretty comfortable, but I do feel a bit more stuck to them than the leather in my Maxima.

About cleaning them, I made an interesting discovery - I disassembled the seat, took out the foam, and hand washed the cover very easily. The trick is to buy some hog ring pliers and you can cut off the old rings and install new ones very quickly. Look like new now. I could do it all again on one seat in an hour or two, drying time not included.

My R1 seats are comfy. I don't really like leather seats in sports cars.

My R1 suede seats kick aise! They've molded themselves to my back and shoulders and every time I slide into them it's as if I am being caressed by some mysterious woman

R1/R2 seats are NOT suede. Suede leather would weigh too much. The R1/R2 seats are actually CLOTH (a "unique cloth" as the Mazda brochure describes it). Yes, I much prefer the R1/R2 cloth over leather. My car is 11 years old ('92 build date), 109,500 miles (daily driver/weekend track car) and the seats have held up surprisingly WELL!

The R1/R2 'suede' is Alcantara cloth. Great stuff.

Are all 93-95 leather and 93-95 R1/R2 seats the exact same material?

Also for some reason my friends silver/red leather seats seem to be a bit more comfy than the black leathers...... so weird..

I am going to japan in a few weeks...I picked up some 99 R2 seats for around 40,000 yen....around $400 I could pick up some more if anyone is interested...I fly on military cargo aircraft so I could pick up a couple sets. I would need a deposit so I would not have a bunch of seats sitting around at my house.....also I took out the leather seats out of my touring...so those need a new home too! jetmech77@iluvmyrx7.com

I gotta agree with meddle, I love my cloth seats. I have never liked leather. It just does'nt go in a sports car. CJ
