have you checked your turbo lately?

I have a xs to4s for about 5 months now, my motor just blew so I have had some time to clean things up. As I was looking at the turbo i noticed a few nicks. It also had a lot of play in it, I though that play was normal because it had play in it after the first hour it was on my car. Well I took it to a shop I know to be cleaned up, and after he looked at it he said the play was way to much. After he took it to his turbo shop he said the damage was not caused by the motor blowing, he said the turbo had a restrictor on the oil flow which was to small. The question I have is how many people have the same problem and dont know it or have had the same problem. I not saying anything bad about xs turbos but i think his is kind of strange.

How big is your restrictor? I just put a .081" one in my line, wonder if thats too small?

Regardless of what turbo or set up it is, is there any benefit at all to have a restrictor in that line?

Gotta control the amount of oil so you don't exceed the oil drain line flow capacity or totally flood the bearing, too little will not cool the bearing adequately. BB turbos require even less oil than non-BB, most are water cooled so require less oil cooling as well.

Once you start blowing oil past the seals in the turbo its usually too late, turbo will continue to produce exhaust smoke.
