I've had some problems with sealing my RB header to the motor. I first used the metal style gasket and it lasted a few months. I had a spare paper style and threw that in for the time being but it is already starting to leak. Is there any better gasket to use that will last a little longer or am I just doomed to keep replacing it?

 

Are your having problems with it vibrating? Id you retighen after a few days of running?

Usually gaskets leak when the bolts aren't tight, or vibration causes the pressure to squeeze localized holes in the material.

 

Mazda Gaskets.

 

Get some gaskets from Racing Beat that are made for the Racing Beat header.

 

I used Orginal Mazda with mine,It has been 3 yrs and no leaks at all.

 

Yeah, I've NEVER heard of anyone having a problem with the Mazda exhaust gaskets.
Hell, I even re-use 'em with no problem.
Check the flange face for any irregularity that might be interfering with the gasket. You are installing it with the larger flange around the exhaust port facing the motor, aren't you? I suppose there is the possibility that a loose exhaust port insert could hammer on the gasket causing a leak, but that's pretty much a longshot. Good luck, though. -WG

 

Original Mazda gaskets are the way to go. You say you threw in an extra paper gasket .... that's burned up and left a gap in it place, causing the leak. Tighten the lower 2 nuts on the header first then the upper, then torque all nuts down. Mazda specs are 23~34 ft.-lbs. I've torqued mine to 40+

 

I'll give the Mazda gasket a try and see how it goes from there. Thanks for the input.
