Went out to my car this morning and noticed a huge pool of brake fluid underneath the left rear rotor. Took the wheel off and looked closer to find that it's coming from the piston. Is the caliper useless or is there a way to fix it?

What's it take to rebuild a caliper?

 

Basically you take it apart, clean it and put it back together, good luck with the rears, especially if you want to keep the parking brake. only way i've done it is to eliminate the parking break, but its not very practical for a street car. Only other option is go to the parts store and buy some re-manuf. ones.

 

I don't know about rebuilding rear calipers with the parking brake, but front calipers are a piece of cake! Cost me less than $20 for the seals and a couple hours of my time to rebuild the fronts on my REPU and now my brakes actually work. I will never buy new calipers again unless something extreme happend to my old ones.

 

Yeah thats the way I see it on my front ones, thats what I did and they work perfect... I dont see why the rear ones would be a lot diferent, theres a lever at the bottom of them for the e brake, why would it be impossible to keep it?

New rear calipers cost about a hudred dollars. Which is alot to me. I found a rebuild kit for twenty dollars at Schucks so I think I'll take that route. Any resources on how to do it? I bought a manual for my car but lost it last time I moved.

 

Buy another manual... But when in doubt use the rule of thumb, remove, diassemble, assembly is in reverse of disassembly

 

Yep, use the Schucks rebuild kit. it's cheap and fairly simple to do.
