When you guys reinstalled your twins, did you guys put all the heat sheilds back on there or what?

I would think that having all of those peices of metals surrounding a glowing chunk of metal would retain heat longer....am I wrong? I know enough to put the sheilds that go around the exaust manifold to the twins, and the top part of the twins...in order to keep heat off the lower intake manifold....but are all the lower ones realy needed? I put them back on, I figure they were put there for a reason.

I put mine back. Not sure the lower shields are really heat shields; more likely to protect working parts from mud, rocks, etc.

When I installed my downpipe I found mine were missing. I guess that means my car had the turbos replaced sometime.

 

I agree, as well as an engine mount heat shield. I would keep that one for sure.

mine were taken off with the turbo rebuild. there arent all kinds of road pebble dings or mud build up around them either, and my car has been an everyday driver with out the sheilds for 17k miles. keep them off. mazda also put a precat and a small radiator on there for a REASON, but are we going to keep them?

 

The precat is there because it is the law and the small radiator is there to save money. I don't think it is the law to have the heat shield and I know they are not saving money by adding this piece. I would still leave the shield on.

 

my point is that there is no reason to leave everything that came stock with the car on the car and reasoning by "saying thats how it came"

 

btw, i know my turbo housings and function is 100% clean because i was staring at them for two hours yesterday intalling my downpipe. and on that note, i dont have an air/fuel guage, so is thier any other obvious way to tell that im running lean? i put another post up with the ?

 

i was just thinking back to one of my ski's which is a turbo honda. it has tons of shielding around the turbo because water regularly gets into the hull and splashes around. now, say if we were running hard, and then went through a big puddle, and soaked our non-protected turbos, then the chances of cracking the housing are more then likely. i guess you guys were right, the sheilding IS there for a reason and worth keeping....oooohhhhhhhh, thanks for clearing that one up! that rajeevx7 guy's a jackass!
