Unhappy Performance of my baby is very disappointing

Okay where to start.

I was doing some test running on my car ('83 GSL) and I'm having some problems with hard accelaration. As soon as it's rev'ed at 4k it sputters like hell and loses power. As we all know the RX-7 love the power band on the high end. It doesn't help if I can't get there. There is also the little thing of my pump which can't seem to give my 6psi witch is needed. It currently gives me, 5.9psi. The pump is rated to produce 7 psi. I've messed with the carb several times, just can't get any results. Any suggestions would be nice.

This is my set up.
-RB Intake
-RB modded Holley Carb
-No emissions (air pump, rats nest, and anyother thing)
-Custom striaght piped exhaust
-Black magic electric fan
-2nd Gen Oil cooler mod
-Holley Fuel Regulator info
-Holley Fuel Pressure Gauge
-Carter Fuel pump info

I used to have one of those Holley pressure guages and it was very inaccurate... as are most of the automotive FP guages available. The VDO gauge I have now is pretty good though.

I am not sure, maybe Sterling, Revhead or PJ could confirm, but that sounds like Too Much pressure to begin with.

Try dialing it lower and testing your results.

does it sputter without load as well? are you pushing out some blackish smoke and popping like hell?

i agree with the gauge being inaccurate, i have one of those Holley (look-pretty-but-ain't-worth-a-damn) gauges ... mine's about a pound or so off ... so yeah, i think you might be rich. try dialing in lower pressure, like directfreak said.

BTW, i don't think a missing tenth of a pound would do that

the only thing is i'm thinking you should experience the break-up/power loss at little higher than 4K RPM ... but i may stand corrected.

Yeah, peejay hasn't been online, so I haven't been able to throw the question his way.

Well damn, it's good to know I bought a crappy product. In any case...

It started smoking at idle when i messed with the carb, because i thought i was leaning out the system, but I will try to reduce the pressure and lower the fuel.

Thanks guys I will let you know what the results are.

Those guages are worthless.. at least the 2 different brands that I've tried. Set your fuel pressure by trial and error; crank it till you start flooding out, turn it down some, then go for a drive. Experiment that way, spend some time driving the car, and you'll get it dialed.

That said, to me it sounds like an ignition or carb problem. Not very specific lol. Of course change your fuel filter to start though.

The funny thing is, my ReX DOES have headlight cleaners, and if you push the headlights up switch in the opposite direction it overrides and cleans the headlight faces...
