I am looking at getting a GT3540 turbo. Is it better to do this after a engine rebuild or can it be done before? I have good compresion now w/ 88k on the motor. If I would blow a seal after the turbo install how much damage would be caused to the turbo?

I would do it after the rebuild cuz a GT 3540 would put more strain on a high mileage motor. If an Apex seal goes and somehow finds its way into the turbo, there will definitely be fin damage, at the least. Why even take the chance?

 

Rebuild the motor, and have theturbo and new motor put in at th same time. Have it ported while you're at it to take advantage of the turbo and help it spool.
