My New Old Tranny...Questions.

Recently bought a spare 12a and tranny, cause my 2nd gear syncro is toast.

First off let me say I was and am amazed at how light this tranny is.

While I was cleaning the inside I had it on an angle, and fluid was slowly running out from around the output shaft where the drive shaft connects. Is this normal? or is there a bad seal?

Is there anything I should replace while the tranny is out? I don't think Ill replace the throw out bearing cause it seems fine.

Should I grease or lube either of the shafts or the throw out bearing?

Oil will leak out the rear, when the drivesahft is not installed.
I would advise changing the front and rear seals before installing it.

While its out replace as much as possible. You'll thank yourself later. The TO bearing and seals are cheap and easy to replace. Also, repalce the pilot bearing and really might as well do the clutch, pp, and resurface the fly wheel. You do all that and you won't have to touch it again for 50K miles or so, depending on how you drive :-)

Oh yeah and get a new rear transmission rubber mount, they are rotten and ready to tear at this age.

Also the shift lever centering spring if the shifter flops left to right from the 1-2 position to 3-4 position. 17-465B-M501

Good info, maybe the seals and the TO bearing, but clutch is outa the question for now. If I buy a clutch and PP Ill be broke. School started today, so im not working.

I have a spare engine, so if the clutch goes Ill just take the one off the parts engine.
