I am in the prosses of looking into a tranny from the states. who here has had a tranny or motor shipped and what is the best/cheapest way to do it?
I dont want my ass raped again on duties and brokeage fees, cause it sure hurt last time on my old FEED Ver 2R front bumper, and it was a lot lighter (UPS!!!).

i have a mail box that charges practically nothing and its 3 minutes from the border.
have ur stuff shipped there..then drive and pick it up. have a written invoice for a lower price and declare that and pay the duty on the 100 bucks or whatever.
save on shipping and duty that way but gas is going up in price so only good 2 do with more stuff.
if you are getting used car parts, i'm pretty sure you don't have to pay any customs/duty as long as it is properly declared as "used parts". even a rebuilt engine could be declared as used i think.
a better alternative to UPS and Fedex is DHL, they have worked out the best in my experience.
USPS I found is alot better in terms of customs and whatnot. You can also just have the person shipping the package claim a lower price on the tranny so that you only have to pay for duty on the claimed price. Or if you can convince them, get them to claim it as a gift then there is no duty on that.
Use a transport company rather than a courrier. Courriers like Fed Ex, UPS will cost a mint. Call some companies like Manitoulin or Cabano Kingsway - they will be cheap. But they wont deliver to a residential address, so either you will have to pick it up from their hub, or have it delivered to someone's work that has a loading dock.
Mazdabation..just have it shipped by a transporter to my shop which is classified as a commercial address so they can drop it off..i will be more than happy to store it for you till you can come pick it up.
Seconding what nick86 said - go with a transport company for heavy/bulky items. It will have to be shipped on a pallet - locally I know some who've used Canadian Freightways for this kind of stuff.

thanks guys! i know of canada post, been doing that for a long time. reason why i was asking was because i knew USPS/CP wouldnt take something big like a transmision. I actually used to have a mail address in the states but i dont use it anymore because they were getting onto my scheems.

sweet, thanx joe. now one more Q.....if i was to go through say PCI for instance, how do you get the item to them? im kinda confused as to how the item being in the staes starts its journey with CPI. will they drive to the place and pick it up or do they have certain drop off places that they will grab the parcels from?

Call Sonya and ask for sure, but I believe she arranges for a truck that will be in the area of the tranny to pick it up and bring it back to Canada. Then you could simply pick it up at their location or have it dropped off at a dock somewhere in Hamilton.

No you dont have to have it dropped off at a business, but to have it dropped off at a residential address it will cost more and they would likely need a power lift gate to unload it. Whereas if it was sent to a business, it could be unloaded with a forklift and its cheaper for some reason.
Phone Sonya and see what she thinks, they could have it dropped off at our shop here, we have a forklift to unload things like that. And we're only a 3/4 hour drive from you

reason it is cheaper to send things to commercial addy's is that you can't fit a big delivery truck down a lot of residential neghborhoods or the local bylaw doesn't allow them. for residential delivery they put the goods in a smaller truck and then deliever them. that's what you're billed for.
