Thumbs up Status of my friend's Black '91 FC with a ported Cosmo 13B-RE

Ok guys, I figured I might as well put this up on the forum after all the long hours that have been put into the car and engine. I took on the entire project for my friend and all he did was fund me the money to make the car how I wanted it basically (or what I suggested) He helped too after everything was installed, etc.

Cosmo 13B-RE long block from Japan with 30,ooo miles on it or so.
Rebuilt with 9.7:1 N/A rotors
all new bearings (clearanced)
Rotary Aviation o-ring kit and 2-piece apex seals
Large streetport that I designed myself and have made a template for
Street ports and runners polished up by an expert porter that ports racing heads for a living (Spyder Prep Racing Heads).
Exhaust inserts replaced with Series 5/6 Turbo ones
Ported exhaust ports that have a slight D-shape to them (the round part is on the bottom)
9.5 lb. lightweight steel flywheel (yes, it's steel)
6-puck clutch with stronger pressure plate
Stock Cosmo RE twin turbos that have the sequential flap removed and the hole welded shut.
Exhaust ports on the turbos have been "rounded" on the "ntake" side of it and smoothed out for somewhat better flow. (where the manifold mates to the turbos).
Ported slight cooling "fins" in the water jackets on the intake area of the rotor housings.
Port matched manifolds.
Very large 24"x12"x4" intercooler (actually 32" wide with the endtanks and openings) as well as all new intercooler piping
4 brand new 7 color Timex gauges for Boost, oil pressure, water and oil temp.
Electric Fan
Magnecor wires
Walbro Fuel pump
550cc/1680cc injectors with KG Parts aftermarket fuel rail
Fuel pressure regulator
Microtech LT8
Neo Synthetic gear oil for trans and diff
soon to have 3" piping all the way back to a Racing Beat 3" y-pipe then back to dual 2.5" inlet mufflers with a 4-5" inch outlet (he currently has no exhaust) He only has the y-pipe and mufflers right now.
Oil baffle plate
Aftermarket Cosmo RE engine mounts
Racing Beat Engine Brace
Aftermarket aluminum oil catch can flipped upside down for coolant overflow
HKS blow off valve
Judge Ito's oil pump mod (using a very thin sealant between the oil pump and mating surface to prevent air bubbles--I used spray on high tack)
RE Amemiya FC1000 front end
Short shifter

There's probably more that I can't remember right now, but the car is currently running but needs a few extra things before it's able to be driven on the street, such as replacing the clutch slave cylinder and bleeding the brakes, as well as a few others.
I have alot of pics, but they were done with a conventional camera, so I have yet to go and get them developed and scan them to put them up on here. I'll try not to keep you guys waiting too long!! I plan on having it run 12- 16lbs of boost on the street with conservative timing, and up to about 20 lbs. of boost on the track with race gas!! The reason for such a large intercooler is because I wanted to keep the intake temps as cool as possible because I know this is very critical for a high compression setup like this. Oh yeah, the engine is VERY responsive to throttle input!!

I used a conventional camera, so I gotta get the pictures developed. Sorry guys, I've really been slacking on this and my funds suck right now. I'll work on getting them developed asap.

yeah, it's been done that whole time, and he brought it over here 2 days ago with his camera as well, and then I remembered that I had a thread about his car from a long time ago. As you can see in the pics, the red elbow coupler on the passenger side next to the strut burst as well as him wanting aftermarket fenders, manual windows, and a bunch of other random stuff done. He needed his camera back that night, so I took a few pics, saved em, and gave it back.

I must say that after I built this engine and did the entire swap (which has actually really easy for the most part), that it is by far my favorite setup in a 2nd gen. I've been coming across soo many threads lately about the 20B that I am glad that that was not the route we took and the 13B-RE setup makes plenty of power as is. I will definitely be taking more pictures guys!! The 13B-RE long blocks are also really cheap compared to the TII long blocks!! $1500.00 for the COMPLETE long block (only $200.00 more than a s5 TII longblock!)

Well, I was never able to download the new pictures that were taken weeks ago (they are on his camera), but I do however have some good news and bad news.
Good news:
He got the car back about a week and a half ago and we got the fenders and everything else sorted out and it looks great! I also took it out last Friday night to tune it on the PA turnpike and it's running 12 psi so far and around 11.5 afr. It feels like it's in the 330 rwhp region so far with the stock RE twins. DEFINITELY fast so far. This really had my hopes up for this car after I put so much into it work-wise. It really made me happy seeing how my "project" came out so far.

Now for the bad news:
The following night (just 48 hours ago), he apparently had a few drinks and decided to go out and drive it for the FIRST time since I tuned it (which made a HUGE difference btw), and decided to have some fun in it. Well it turns out that he was ticketed for doing 120 in a 55 zone as well as getting a DUI. What an idiot. They also impounded the car. It turns out that he got the car back today and the only thing he has to say about it now is that he wants to sell it. Talk about putting a huge damper on my hopes for wanting to build another one for someone else.
Ugh, what an idiot. The car was JUST STARTING to get into it's potential, and now he calls it quits because he has no friggin self control.

The thing is that I'm finishing up helping my friend with his beautiful black 89 vert. The Garrett To4b is in as well as the megasquirt ecu, I'm also building my other friend's streetported 13B for his 93 RX which basically has a Garrett gt35/40, Apexi PFC, full exhaust, v-mount, etc., etc., etc, and restoring my brother's red 79' widebody rx7, which is consisting of rebuilding the streetported 13B with 3mm seals, To4b turbo, liquid intercooler, microtech and 10,000 other things.
Well, after this, if even 1 more of them decides to do the same thing (most likely my brother-----and his is the BIGGEST project by FAR), I'm gonna just want to call it quits on what I really enjoy doing.
Sorry for the rant, just frustrated because I put soo much into the things I enjoy doing the most, only to see it kicked to the curb suddenly.

Damn. Some people don't deserve nice cars. You should come to Cali and build mine up instead =).
