These FD gearboxes are strange

So I probably have a couple hundred passes on this gearbox. 1.47 60's, 8100 clutch drops all the time. Lots of street time too, so I'm definitely not complaining, its just weird. I was out saturday night, set up to get a run in with a TT G35 that should probably pull me. I brake boosted in 3rd, got the pressure up to about 20 psi around his 3rd honk, let go of the brake and 3rd gear just exploded inside the gearbox. Luckily i still had the other gears to get me home, although it was making some horrendous noises.

What i find strange is that the trans was loaded up on the street and it let go. On street tires and a cold street too. It should have spun. On the track i constantly bang the gears hard, I'm not easy on it at all. It could have been that its time had come and it was going to let loose either way, track or street. Again, not complaining, just found it curious. Guess I'm pulling the motor with the gearbox this time.

A few months ago I had the same issue, a lot of passes on the track. I've been on the same tranny for 4 years almost and one day on the street, messing around with a friend, I broke it. It never broke on the 2step launching etc but it did break on the street on a few passes.

Does someone make an adapter plate for the t56 or are you getting one off pieces made? That sounds interesting.

I have a T5 to Mazda adapter...

I believe your tranny broke due to excessive load applied to it in third gear.. It would've been better to downshift to 2nd and keep your rpm's up rather then trying to build boost and stay in third..

We were moving too fast for 2nd. I think i was around 5500, so yeah, it was definitely loaded up. For slower rolls, brake boosting in 2nd would lite up the tires. Its fun.
