Warning on AEM ignitions

We have had about 5 AEM ignitions not work correctly. We suspect its an overheating issue that is causing the cars to stall while crusing. Once you let it cool down it will start backup with no problems. We can also run the adaptor that converts it back to stock ignition with no problems. Possible solution is mount the unit inside the car but that is a pain in the *** and would like to come up with something else. I know there is another thread about this but we have had 2 more fail in the past week. Please post any problems with them in here and I will contact AEM to see what they say.

Also like to add that we are now carrying the XS Engineering Power Pack that we have tested and have not had any issues with.

i've been pioneering the troubleshooting method with the AEM....

mine overheats, pops fuses, etc, i'm on my fourth one from them now.....

i've been telling people for a while not to run them, but they do not listen, it has a lot to do with dwell time, I have figured that much out.

It will NOT work in place of the OEM ignitor, something quirky, it should in theory, work though.

well, so far, i found a manager that I dealt with, his name is kirk miller, 310-484-2322 extension 237

he is a lot more helpful than mitch, and some of the other technicians. He overnighted me a brand new one, which we are now figuring out was actually old inventory, but new in the box-nonetheless...

also, if you send your unit back to them, and they claim to repair it, it's bullshit...these units are not repairable, the internals are potted in epoxy, so they can only bench test them (AT ROOM TEMPERATURE) and then send them back with an OK sticker

i'm patient, and I am reasonable, but when you run something in your car that can fail and cripple you at any given point (i.e, interstate) it is potentially lethal and dangerous

couple that knowledge with the fact that AEM is not notifying all of the customers who have some of the original units of the potential failure, and it is a legal nightmare waiting to happen

what happens when someone gets hurt or worse because of this thing? i've had my car towed twice so far because of this unit...

Where are you people mounting this thing? I just got mine and am looking to find a solution that would somewhat address the heat issue.

Also, has AEM addressed this at all? What I find interesting is that there is no operating temp rating on the specs of the thing. I would think that due to the nature of it that there is a limit to that, and that they would indicate that to aide in the placement of the thing.

mine has cut off once too. the car started right back up (when i was rolling for like 10 seconds in neutral heh)

i have mine mounted on the cross brace in front of the motor. It gets a good amount of airflow, which may or may not help.

So has AEM fixed the overheating issue with the new(er) cdi's?

If it happens again I will call them, moving the unit inside the car doesent sound like a horrible idea. I want to rewire it with a new coil harness anyways

Thanks for the heads up guys, I was about to order one. I've been following the earlier thread and the AEM forum thread and now I'm definitely going with the crane/lx92 setup.

Are you sure AEM is not a wholly owned sub of Microsoft?

The reason you're seeing the failures is because AEM (if they are not owned by Microsoft) is using you SUCKERS for beta testing.

Didn't the same thing happened to the AEM engine management shitbox too?

HKS Twin power over 2 years no problem at all.

Brian, even with it in the cabin now on your car, is it still failing or cutting off?

I haven't had a problem with mine yet. It is mounted where the stock cruise was located.
