Are these irons/housings/rotors/parts still usable?

Just picked up two FC's. One still has the motor in it, and I have another motor in boxes. I see that some people do not like lapping the irons and some people do. Some surface rust on parts. Just want to see what I can salvage and what is scrap. Here are a few pictures of what I have so far...

I was told by the previous owner, these are S4 NA irons and S4 Turbo Housings with S5 NA rotors. It looks like the front and rear iron ports have not been touched. The middle looks like a shitty bridge job. I will have more pictures up soon.

Thanks in advance for your help, opinions, and advice!

Looks like the housings have a few spots on the edges that are starting to flake. Not sure about the port job...

E shaft I would not use. Front iron looks bad more then likely going to be pitted. Rotor housing don't look bad (look) . Rear iron might be ok if lapped and renitrided (in my opinion not worth it ). The problem everyone has with lapping is that it removes the layer of nitride. This accelerate the wear rate . And engine that have been lapped tend to smoke for a while.

you MAY get lucky and use some emery paper on the rear iron and get the rust off, but look carefully for pitting. that will be the killer

I does look like there has been some "porting" to the exhaust sleeves. Possible NA housings with sleeves cut out?

Thanks!

The rotor bearings look great

And those are s4 housings, no knock sensor hole is the dead giveaway. And i don't think it matters if they are n/a or t2 if the exhaust sleeves are gone

Bought some more parts!

I'm guessing this rotor is toast...

That rotor is still useable. Check Apex Seal/side seal and corner seal clearances. That's all

Even with the wear on the bearings?

I wouldnt use that rotor just by the looks of all the pitting on the face. Housings have a lot of edge wear. Some edge wear is OK for a budget build but i wouldnt bother. I'd pull that other engine you have to inspect if your planning on building an engine.

That E-shaft could be used. Here is the one I cleaned up and used in my current engine. Now it took a lot of time with various grits of emery cloth and sand paper but I got the rust off and back to a smooth finish.

WOW! Thanks for the tip.

I pulled my S4 engine lastnight, so we will see how that one looks!

Irons can definitely be lapped but if you do, make sure you use someone like Chip that re-nitrides them as well. Rotor housings don't look terrible but personally I won't use anything with chrome flake in a turbo applications. Tll housings have an extra coolant passage where the intake manifold bolts. Eshaft isn't worth messing with. They are cheap enough to replace. I always replace bearings in my builds as they are a wear item.
