Hello, there is a 1986 rx7 gxl for sale near me. It has 60,000 miles and appears to be in decent shape. I don't know much about rx7's but really like the looks of them. I have always wanted one. I am just worried that it will be expensive for repairs. Right now he is asking $3600 obo for it. I will try to chew him down in price though. Is this a wise investment? Or should I just buy a mustang....lol. it has brand new tires and has recently had a tuneup. I have not test drive it yet. Here's a pic if the car. He said it was storeso in the winters. They should idle at 750 rpm when fully warmed. Make sure it starts easy from a cold start (and after driving it check to see how easy it starts from a hot start too). After the cold start the rpm should start out at about 1400 rpm and then progressively drop from there as the engine warms up and eventually make it to 750 rpm. Check the switches which are prone to failure such as the headlight switch and the wiper switch and while your at it check the turn signals, flashers, horn etc. Make sure that the secondary injectors kick in at about 3800 rpm when under load (stomping the gas pedal while driving). The transition should be fairly smooth and there should not be any sense of hesitation. And if in doubt check the compression of both rotors.
It is completely up to you, go on NADA and punch in your zip code and see what its worth in your area. You can't ask on an internet forums because

2. Its not our money to spend
3. If it is our money to spend, you better start paypaling fast lol
3600 might be okay if this thing doesn't show any signs of needing a rebuild or anything major. Make sure everything works and whatever doesn't drawback from the price. Notify issues and report back here and we might be able to give you advice on how much it would cost to fix and the type of headache you would develop from fixing it.
How do you do under the hood? how old are you? is this your first car?
I'm not exactly a mechanic but have mechanical skills. I am not afraid to get my hands dirty when needed. I usually try to fix things myself in my vehicles, unless it is beyond my skills/ knowledge. There is a local mechanic who often steert me in the right direction if i need something. If I do not have the time and/ or patience to fix something I will just bring it to him. I am 31 years old and have had ten 10 different vehicles or so in my time as well as a couple different atv's and snowmobiles.
