I appreciate the responses. It's just a shame that the city is as stated. We're definitely used to having free range of a city without worrying about safety for the main part. Well, such is life.

If you support CCW, I advise you to carry when possible.

Yes, Milwaukee is known as the most segregated city in the US. I can easily draw a map of Milwaukee and pinpoint which area is occupied by a certain race.

Milwaukee is a small city, think of it as a mini Chicago. There are lots of festivities during the summer to enjoy. If you enjoy the night life there are multiple spots downtown. Aside from the negativity you hear, there are good things about this city you'll have to experience for yourself. Personally, I wouldn't invest in a home in the inner city. I have The safest areas are generally in the outskirts of Milwaukee. I jokingly tell people that if a city bus route doesn't reach you, you're in a safe zone.
I've lived in the city of Milwaukee for 11 years now and I have always lived on the edge of what people think is shady territory. Everything you mentioned about Milwaukee is true for the most part, except your over cautiousness statement is misleading. I took the bus for the first 4 years and never had any issues at any time during the day or night. I've never had any run ins and generally feel pretty safe all the time. Right now, I live in a nicer part of Riverwest which is getting crapped on by crime if you read the news. But honestly, most of the crimes, and especially the more violent crimes, are in areas you wouldn't be anyways. The only thing most people living in the city have to deal with is vandalism and pan handlers. That being said, are the suburbs of Milwaukee safer than Milwaukee? you bet. Are the suburbs of Chicago safer than Chicago? you bet. It's all a matter of perspective.

Milwaukee is fine. I've lived here all 31 years of my life, grew up in"bad" areas and "good". I have lived in the suburbs and the city.
There's all your typical stuff here. Suburbs are always safer, but you miss out on a lot in my opinion. We have an enormous amount of parks, beer gardens, festivals, etc. You can drive and park anywhere when you want to be downtown.
Lately, mpw had been replacing a lot of roads around the area, new condos are going up everywhere. We're getting a new basket ball arena. The list goes on! Make sure to check out Shorewood, it's a small town on the water just north of the city with a great community.

My philosophy is just don't be a victim. Don't stare at your phone walking down the street at night, if a guy looks shady head away from his direction. If your car has tinted windows, expect someone will think you have cool stuff and take it.
The majority of bad rap has been the 13 to 19 black male population based on the police reports I receive from my district, but officers are having great success in catching these criminals (or they die in high speed chases). Take it for what it's worth, but it's not like we are Chiraq (Chicago)

I used to live in Elkhorn, WI but the good news is I lucked out and get orders to come back to Milwaukee. I am in the Navy and I never thought I would get so lucky. Is Hwy 100 still a thing? it has been years since I have been out there.

I am happy I am coming back, however it will be in the middle of winter. At least they know how to plow in WI compared to Virginia.

Does anybody by chance have a set of stock shock and springs or some not coilovers? I bought Godspeed projects and It was a horrible choice to make.
