FD repaint, BLACK

Hey guys, I am getting my fd repainted black within the next week. I need suggestions for a type of "black". I am pretty set on BLACK BLACK with no silver shimmer or anything. If you have any suggestions or pictures, please post them!

ahh the carbon black is grayish. I'm not planning to do a whole body repaint, just the outside. It can't vary TOO much from the original brilliant black because I want the door sills to match with the exterior color

I guess a better question is, do you have a reason for NOT going with the OEM Brilliant Black?

Unless you are going to add some pearl or something in it (or a Kandy color), just go with OEM.

BTW, the Carbon Black on the BMW M3 basically looks blue in bright light as shown above. You may as well go with Montego Blue if you want something like that (which is a pain to match if you have to fix a small area).

Is brilliant black just regular black? I wanted DARK DARK black. as black as you can get. thats why i didnt wanna stay oem. I never seen a black fd in real life so I can't vouch if that looks good or not. My fd was left in the sun by previous owner, so the paint is REALL bad

thought it sounded just what you were after. i spent along time hunting down the right black. people laughed at me when i said i wanted a black black, there are literally hundreds to choose from but i still think i chose the right one.

i`ll have a hunt to see if i got any other shots of it i sold this rex on about a year ago. im pretty sure its been stripped for track use now :-(

Stick with the OEM black or you will shoot yourself if you ever need to sell the car

A freshly painted Brilliant Black will be dark. It's hard to tell on the forum as most of the cars have original 15-17 year old faded paint. Here's a older thread with some pictures:

/\ thats a super old thread, ha! That was my before I even had my 7 during my "obsession" days

to the OP, I agree that a fresh painted BB will be very black. Add a nice wax/polish and it will probably be exactly what your looking for. Will probably help with resale value in the long run I'd assume as well.

I dunno bout other blacks...but for bmw. jet black is black black. Carbon black (i have) is black with blue pearls in it so it doesn't really look black... its blue, purple, black, depending on how light hits it

Carbon black is definitely not "BLACK BLACK". It's a really dark blue.

If you don't like OEM Brilliant Black, try looking into these. Both are non-metallic pure black.

If you never seen one in real life how do you know you don't want one

Anyway I actually posted here to help:

IMO you should go checkout brand new cars at dealerships, any cars (toyota, chevy, BMW). There you will find pristine examples of what their factory colors really look like. Once you find that black shade that you actually like, ask the salesman about the paint code (or find out for yourself since it's right on the door jam) tada you're done you've found your color. Next you take that code and tell your body shop you want "the paint out of a 2010, whatever make and model, and the paint code is ----"

Don't understimate the average non luxury brands either. For example my GF has a toyota RAV 4 and it has a real nice deep black to it. I remember this one guy here repainted his FD blue and everyone was like " your **** is nice! is that lambo blue?" "Is it a custom color?" " I love your car, what's the paint code????" It turned out it was "just" a nissan 350Z blue...

good luck

You might want to check out Glasurit, its high end RM-Diamont paint, I have seen chip comparisions, and the Glasurit is darker, but costs more.

I need to see if I can get a picture, but my friend painted his car Bentley Black. Its the truest black I've seen.
