8" subs in shock towers? (i have read the 32 threads)
Ok, I read the 32 Threads based on this subject.
Now I want some objective opinions.
I have read every post by Icemark, and he is a very knowlegable guy on the subject, Now he says I won't be able to get anything shy of 40hz. So I would like to offer a few examples of subs.
Now what I know from reading.
That the volume of each tower is 0.19 - 0.23 Cubic Feet.
And that is even less with the sub in there.
Now my question is, would it be at all possible to extend the length (height) of the shock towers by building some rings and extending the fiberglass to increase the volume slightly?
Or to invert the subs and setup the head unit and the amp respectively to improve volume and sound?
Ok I have a few different subs in mind These are all very expensive but I am sponsored so these would not be too terribly expensive to use so lets ignore their cost.
Focal 5 3/8" Sub

Focal 8" Sub

Focal ~5" Sub

JL 8" Sub

Now would any of these produce the extra bass required to make my car sound better.. I right now have Boston Pro 6.5's In the rear with seperate Tweeter
and Boston Pro 5.5's in the doors. So there are good speakers and the Head Unit is Pioneer Premier DEH-P760MP.
The Amp will be Audisson.
Now I just want some better sounding low frequency in my car. But I don't want to make my car a target for theft (already has been vandalized twice). Nor do I want to sacrifice the little room there is. I already tried custom making sealed boxes where the bins are and it sounds like ***.
Like I mentioned Earlier I don't want to Really FEEL the base like most like to rattle their cars appart. I want sound quality more than anything as you can see by the components that are already in my car and the components I am planning to put in my car.
So any and or all suggestions comments (good or bad) as long as they are constructive would be great!
I just don't want to announce what I have to theifs
I just don't want to sacrifice the little room there is in our cars.
I want to keep a stock Clean look
I want to add to the quality of sound in my car with some lower Frequencies.
Thank You
Jeffrey

i like idea of using the 5inch sub. i think that wold give an all stock appearence with some decent bass. but then you would lose your rear speakers. try a custom sub box in your spare tire area. box would have to be thiner but it would have a good cubic foot if built right.
Extending the tubes would look stupind i think. you could jsut doo a box across the whole rear with 3 tens and mould it into the rear?
I jsut had my sub and huge box chill in the rear. IF you bought the S5 rear privacy cover thing you would be taken care of. theres a though.

Extending the shock tower area would cause the speakers/subs to hit the hatch struts when the hatch is closed. Putting subs there is going to limit the amount of bass you will be able to get out of your system. If you are looking for something unique to to give decent performance in a small space then I say go for it. If you really want a great system I think this idea is a little to far fetched.
I like the idea of the 5 inch drivers as well.

ya you will loose room no matter what. uless you do a custom small box mount that you can put stuff in. for instance, the two tens could be angled in the rear corners at 45 degree angles, or even facing each other. because bass is unidirectional it does really matter which way they are pointed.
But like you said NO MATTER what you do YOU WILL lose space in your FC.
