what seems to be the setting that promotes flames from the tailpipe?

i remember seeing a video of someone doing it, i have a high flow cat + cat back, so I'm not sure if it will still do it, but i'm running the base map right now

i can see this question going two ways, either i get flamed for this, or it's too complicated for me to do

 

First you need a mid-pipe.

I think what you are talking about back fire on engines. Every engine back fires at some time. You don't see the fire when having the cat because it blocks it. At the same time you are killing your cat. I think also it fire created from un lit fuel....so if your car is rich (not too rich) and the timing is aggressive, MAJOR back fire will occur...

Just go to your Commander and change the rpm settings, there is a setting that specifies when the fuel injectors come back on during decel. Raise it up to 7000 rpm and you should set the road on fire behind you when you let off the throttle! Take care not to kill yourself or others, you're responsible.

 

i have a cat yet i get alot of back FIRE! and i don't even hace any ecu! maybe my car's just retarded

There are two ways of creating more flames from your FD. The one you want has already been stated. Go into settings then the one labeled RPM Settings. Now the first three settings are the ones you want for this. They dictate went the injectors come back on after a coast down when in gear. The ECU does this in every car for fuel savings/emissions. Now you can set this to redline (8000ish) so they never cut off. So with little air and retarded timing unburnt fuel spews forth. If you have a Cat it will consume some of it, thus why it helps to have a mid pipe but you can still do it with a cat. Any way the three settings are for (in order top to bottom) no electrical load (no alternator on) With electrical load (with alternator on) and with A/C on. Just turn them all up to 8k and volia flames. This does not hurt your motor/turbos at all. Your bumper will melt if you do it alot (seen it on other cars before) The other way is the anti-lag method, similar but much harder on the turbos. Sorry so long but the other answers were just parts of the puzzle.

Where is the RPM setting inthe Commander? I don't see anything that says that.

 

If you cannot find these settings on the PFC then you should probably not mess with them or any others for that matter.

Page 33 of the manual, the screen is called Rev/Idle from the menu, look for the F/C settings ...

The anti lag is only available thru the Datalogit.

 

I couldn't find them because they are NOT labeled RPM Settings. That doesn't mean I'm too stupid to mess with the Commander.

I was going off the top of my head. It is labeled rev/idle on the commander. In the manual they also use rpm setting to refer to those functions. Sorry for the mix up.

Anti Lag System or Misfiring System. Like the ones rally cars use.
It basically injects fuel into your exhaust manifold when you let go of the throttle. That creates lil explosions within your exhaust manifold. Sometimes you can see fire coming out of the exhaust. It also makes a lot of noise (why it's also called the "bang bang" system.That will keep the turbo(s) spinning even when you are not on the throttle. That decreases lag. It increase wear on your exhaust manifold though.

I had flames come out with a main cat.

one of my rotors had a fouled plug.......... i'll let u figure out how that could have happened and the correlation......

Thanks for the tip 7 eleven. I just got a midpipe installed, and am looking forward to shotting flames out of my RB dual tip hee hee BTW, does the rpm have to be set to 8000 rpm? Seems high. How about 7000 rpm? BTW, will my gas mileage decrease with fuel spewing into the exhaust upon deceleration everytime? Are there any downsides to this?

 

I bumped the rev/idle to 7500 rpm, but am not sure if my car is shooting flames? Is it possible with a Racing Beat Dual Tip catback (I have a DP/MP)?
