Not much to update. My 8 years of owning this rx7 passed on May 20th. Doing this build over the course of 8 years i've realized this car has had more done to it then I originally thought I could do. I'm going to slow down on this build, but still have plans for the car that need to be done. Time to really enjoy it

Here's the reason for slowing down on the rx7....

The REPU is going to undergo a full ground up resto-mod. I'll probably start a build thread in the old school section once I really dive into the REPU.

Awesome! Congrats on 8 years of having your FB. I'll have had my 83 S for 13 years in August. Time flies....

Good luck with the Repu, one of those is on my "someday" list... I'll be watching

Thanks! Time has really gone by. Congrats on the 13 years! Surprised I didn't get another rotary vehicle before, but I'm glad I had all that time to just work on the 7 and have it where I wanted.

Thanks again! I'll be sure to post up about it. Still need to get a RX3 someday too. Maybe after the REPU is done lol.

So, work hasn't stopped on the 7 just yet lol. Rear carpet set, hatch carpet that covers taillights, storage bin carpet and the storage bin lid carpet is all getting replaced. It has been slightly faded since I got the car and now it's time to change it. The front will be changed after the rear.

Also, had a recent photoshoot at Red Rock just west of town. Here's some pics from that. Enjoy!

Your interior looks great already!

What route are you going for replacement stuff?

Thank you! The interior is in great shape, but there are some minor flaws inside I'm trying to get rid of. I have a local upholstery guy doing all the work! Hopefully get the carpet back in by the end of the week.

Sorry I've been lagging on getting back on here. Lots has changed since I last posted.

I actually decided to sell the REPU. I'll get another one someday, but I want a house before a finished truck lol.

Back to the 7 though. The interior is all back together! Seats redone, new rear carpet, rear quarter panels redone, crossbar powdercoated, storage bin housings powdercoated, stereo surround, shifter surround, window switch surround all painted, and had my steering shaft shortened so can use my horn and auto cancel blinkers again and lot more.

Here's some pics:

More to come. Plan to have the engine bay painted soon. Engine hopefully out this weekend to get that done.

how many miles on your motor? & any plans to put a different steering wheel? I just recently changed my factory one out and love the difference in driving feel. Also congrats on having the car so long, I'm coming up on 7 years owning my current FB fyi

Hey, it's been awhile! I'm not exactly sure cause I didn't write mileage down once I installed the engine, but I'd say around 6,000 miles give or take a 1,000 miles. Still doesn't miss a beat and driven to Cali a couple times for sevenstock and been to arizone also.

Don't have any plans for a aftermarket steering wheel at the moment. I've thought of it, but the interior on the 7 is one of my favorite things about it stock and I just love it the way it is.

Thanks! It's quite a long time thinking about it and definitely will be sticking around for a long time. Congrats to you on 7 years too! Going to sevenstock this year?

my FB isn't in a good shape to show this year, front end was hit in a parking lot so I'm going to have a busy winter making it straight again.

I've been putting a bit of work into the 7 lately. I was trying to get the car ready for this years sevenstock, but was unable to make it last minute. Always next year!

I decided to finally jump in and have the engine bay and underside of the hood painted. Sent the 7 off to my painter and let him do his thing. Had him plug up a lot of the excess holes in the bay and firewall that aren't being used anymore too. It all came out very nice and i'm glad the car is all one matching color again!

While the car was there I went to town on cleaning up as much parts as I could. Here's all the parts I either cleaned up/repainted/powdercoated/ or got new.

Powdercoated:
Radiator supports/cover
Intercooler piping
Battery tray
Brake lines/booster lines
Alternator housing/pulley
Headlight motor brackets

Ceramic coated:
Turbo hotside housing

Painted:
Brake booster
Ignition coils
Fan shroud

New:
Radiator/hoses
Brake master cylinder
Clutch master cylinder
NGK spark plug wires
Headlight "short" and "long" arms

Here's what it all looks like now. Not running yet, but nearly there. Just got to do a few things and add fluids.

Hopefully more to come soon. Thanks to Miguel for paint and Juan at Snail Motorsports for powdercoat.

Unfortunately I still haven't driven the car since the engine bay was done. I've been dealing with other things and taking my time with the 7. The turbo seals failed on the test drive. I decided to order a T04B 60-1 with a p trim turbine wheel and .84 divided T4 housing. Should be here this week and hopefully on the dyno by next weekend. We'll see what we can put down at just 8-12 psi.

I've been missing old school meshies too lately. I recently picked up some SSR reverse mesh in 15x7. Plan to step them up to 16" formula mesh and have custom lips/barrels made for offset and backspacing similar to my CCWs. Hopefully more to come soon!

The hifi 60-1 turbo has been installed. New turbo oil feed line with it. Had to fab up intercooler piping and a 90 degree coupler to fit a air filter with the tight space. That's done.

I'll be running a bov on this setup now too. I went ahead and got a synapse diverter valve and got that mounted.

Ordered a new tial 44 mvr wastegate and a banzai racing hks to tial adapter for the manifold. That will be mounted here any day now. I'll probably run a 12 psi spring with a mbc added if want to go up in boost.

Got the exhaust reworked too. All the 3 bolt flanges were swapped out for 3" v band flanges/clamps. 3 total throughout the exhaust. Quickly take it out if I need to.

Why stop there right!? Lol I decided to drop the transmission and change the clutch. Installed a new ACT heavy duty pressure plate and a exedy street/strip clutch(Yes, it works!). All new throwout/pilot bearing and new clutch fork with pivot ball for the S5 TII tranny. I then took the tailshaft housing off and did the shifter relocation modification. Removed 30mm from the shifter rod, dust tube, and the shifter housing. Installed a mazdatrix short shifter and put it all back in. Filled it up with neo synthetic gear oil and it drives and feels great! Shifter right in the stock location once again.

I'll be redoing the fuel setup too. I'm either going to go with a GSLSE fuel tank for the slosh cup or just get a internal surge tank so no air will get in the lines under boost at low fuel levels. I ordered a aeromotive fpr and had all the injectors cleaned and new orings put in. I'll be running new stainless braided PTFE lines for possibilities of e85 in the future or maybe before the tune.

I think that's all for now. More to come soon.

Wow, truly impressive. It gives me something to aspire to. Were you ever able to customize the rear spring setup--i.e., get a longer coil that would allow for more adjustment with the Re-speed spring perch?

Keep up the great work, look forward to your next post.

Thanks Kameron! I tried having the guy who helped build my BC coilovers up front make them. He said there was nothing he could find and that he wouldn't be the guy to build a custom spring. I kinda forgot about it after that. Maybe I'll contact these guys and ask If they can make something or know someone else that will. They supplied springs to re-speed from what I heard...

I got a GSLSE fuel tank coming my way. I'll do a full restore on that with por15. Plan to get some weldable AN fittings and have those welded on to the fuel/return lines so I can run stainless braided lines all the way to the fuel rails. The same way Directfreak did his fuel tank.

Getting closer!

So much goodness in this thread. All done right and patiently. Good motivation for my project. Love the stock interior and exterior with perfect suspension setup and wheel fitment. So much done right here! Thanks for keeping up with this project!
