what the new ECU
i plan on putting on a new intake, dp, and catback soon... i've been wondering though, what's the point in getting a new or reprogrammed ECU? is it just so you can go higher than 10psi without going lean? what if i put on a boost controller and keep it set at 10... could i then keep my stock ECU? i'm probably gonna get a pettit ECU and an electronic boost controller (GReddy profec B spec 2) just so i can run most of the time at 7-8psi (everyday driving) or crank it up to 12 psi (cause i'm still on the stock fuel and IC)... but i'm curious as to the point in the new ECU

so, i only need it if i want to SAFELY run more than 10, but if i keep it at 10 (GReddy Profec B Spec 2) i would be ok with the stocker?

Pettit Unlimited - My fav if you plan to run stock fuel. Why? You can run a 1bar of boost, its riched and programed conservitaly, you can pick up used for 400-450bucks. And you can go non-seq the right way and eliminate all those sensors under you uim and the pettit ecu doesnt care.. I ran my t78 on it for a while with no problems..

So how do you specify your current config? And does this in some ways tie you to the Pettit line?
I hope these questions make sense. I'm trying to get my brain around this stuff. After reading other posts, it seems like an ECU upgrade is a very good thing to do before going off the deep end on mods (currently only have dp and cat back mods).
This may be a viable alternative for me over the PFC (as long as it can eventually take me to a fairly reliable ~320 - 350 RWHP).

Pugg - 450 for the used ECU, 300 for the profec b spec 2 (careful, those units are known to have a lot of problems - try to find a used spec 1 on ebay or at an online store. I think i saw one for 257 on ebay - came w/ the box and everything) -
I think i agree w/ fetusmaus - for 1100 you can get a PFC that you can reprogram every time your mods change. You also avoid the hassle of changing chips again.
Im running an intake, and DP as my only mods and boosting 13-9-11. However i dont see myself going any further, so the boost controller should be enough. If I throw on a catback/midpipe - PFC all the way.
