Please help!! Starts then Dies
My 1993 has been in the shop being painted. After setting, it will now start then dies.
We tested the power at the fuel pump relay. It has power before start then the power goes away. It dies and the power is back.
Is this an anti theft issue from setting for a few months??
Any help would be great as there is noone local I have found to help!!!!!!!

Will work for horsepower
If the fuel pump resister goes bad you get fuel prime and it will go dead. It will run for few secounds each time you reset key. I just bypassed mine as to get 12 volts all the time. The computer runs pump at 9 volts until it sees a certain load and goes to 12 volts. Its located under the brake booster and cruse control.

Wow my car's problem too!! Been looking all over the net for someone who's had this problem, Busted7, you sound like you know what you're talking about, can you help me find my fuel pump resistor to check that?
I've had my car sitting for a few years while I was in school (blown motor) and before I got new engine I could still run it on a blown seal (I know bad idea) but after sitting for a couple years, car would start for 2 secs then die! Put new engine in and same problem, I have new spark plugs and changed fuel, pump and filter.
Thanks for any help

If its the resister its under the cruse control unit mounted on the frame rail. It looks kind of like a heat sink. The manual in the sticky should help. Also if you get a fuel pressure tester and hook it up you will see it primes pressure but when it dies it will show zero.

When this happened to me it took two days to figure this out and i just wired around the resister becouse i was running a walbro pump and wanted a full time 12 volts anyway. Now the car is soo not original that if there is a problem in the drive train or cooling or engine or controls there is no repair book to go by. So its what did i do wrong and just have to figure it out from scratch!
