Our beloved 90s rotary exotics and trust...

I have seen a few small comments here and there in different posts, where members state their love for their cars, and who they trust/dont trust their keys to in situations where others ask or want to drive their rotary.
Myself, I have no problems letting others drive my FD(when it was on the road, its 90% rebuilt now, soon done again with 400+whp seq BNRs), as long as they truely understand what unforgiving 90s supersportscar they are handed keys to. Cause if its one thing the FD is, its unforgiving if you screw up. This is no e36 beamer or S13/14 who lets you know half a century in advance that the *** is about to take a little stroll on the outside of the turn... Ooooh no, the FD grips..and grips...and grips... and SNAPS when it first lets go like a true sportscar should in my eyes. Im not talking about clutching it out...
In my eyes, there are few true sportscars out there now adays. With all the electronics and aids, anyone can get behind the wheel of a costly exotic and pretty much floor it(generally speaking though, we have all seen that this is not true, but you get my drift) and be "good" behind the wheel.
A true supersportscar is a car that scares you abit when you fire it up.. Its like a living being, a newly broken mustang stallion with that eery look in the eyes when you look at it. It looks back at ya, like its pondering and measuring you to see if you are worthy... "Should i let this human up, give it a false sence of safety and then buck it into the barn door....?" A true supercar is a car not everyone can drive and drive fast..! Its a symbiosis formed between a driver and the car, where the truely skilled driver connects with the car and sences it, feels it, , and the bad driver gets slammed into the nearest lightpost, like the mustang bucks the unskilled rider into the biggest cactus in history and strides off almost laughing..

Short comparison... Top gear... Clarkson is a fairly decent driver i would say. He LOVED the enzo and everything about it, praised it into the skies and drove it FAST! Stig took it out and set a new lap record..! a FAST car..!
Then, Clarkson did the MC-12. Same car basically, but maseratis setup and looks on it.. Wider, longer, lower drag coefissient etc.. He absolutely hated it.. Unstable in brakeins, trigger/tailhappy on exits blablabla... Stig took it out and beat the enzo...! How? I dont think Clarkson understood the feedback from the mc-12... Stig did..!

The FD gives this sensation in a 90s package, like the 90s RUF porsches, countach, F40s etc, and like any true sportscar from the early days did... It separated the men from the boys..!

Back to my main Q again...

Who do you/do you not give permission to drive the FD and why..?

I let my friends drive the FD after
1. i see that they understand what they are going to drive
2. if they own or have several hours behind the wheel of a high-power non-electronically-aided car
3. if they have no point 2 experience, i find nearest huge parking lot and let them take the drivers seat and try to floor it in first and second, when turning, so they DO understand that this is no dozile old mare.. this is a bucking mustang stallion..!

Oh...and I never get tired of seeing the following events when they are to try the FD for the first time
1. They have to slide and wiggle into the drivers seat.
2. When they close the door, it "hits their shoulder" while the hip is firmly snuggled on the seat wich is pinned towards the propshaft tunnel.
3. They comment on how everything is soooo drivers oriented.. the compartment is so enclosed on the driver
4. They fire it up and they smile and giggle
5. they step on it abit for the first time from low revvs and let off pretty much instantly and smile/giggle nervously when the primary turbo instaspooled up an give em a small kick
6. when they go ***** to the wall and floor it, feeling the force of the primary... and then the secondary kicks in and they just laugh uncontrollably until they are awakened by the revshift-beep

Only two people besides myself have driven my FD since
I've owned it. My wife has driven it on the way home from parties when I had been drinking and my friend drove it once when we decide to swap cars on the way home from a cruise (I drove his s2k. Mad vtec in those compared to a 95 civic :p) I'm personally not a very trusting person. I taughty wife to drive my 7. I told her exactly how it runs getting into turbo control, boost levels, proper coolant temps, primary/secondary injection times, proper vacuum readings at idle, proper oil pressure etc. I did this so she will know that if something happens she can respond accordingly. Besides the one time I swapped cars with a friend, people can take a ride in my car with me driving, but I'd be pretty sketchy on letting your average guy get behind the wheel of my car. My s2k friend was all smiles after he got into boost on the highway though. :P He also loved hearing the turbos whistle while cruising through the neighborhood.

No one drives my car.

It's common sense. I don't drive other people's cars either. It's just like abstinence. If you don't do it, you never have to worry about the consiquences. For me, the consiquences are far too great.

I'm 6'2 and my bucket seat has no sliders, my wife and most of my friends are shorter so its a non issue for me. Most people are happy enough to go for a ride in it they dont ask to drive. Although Ive asked a few of my taller friends to drive a couple times while I logged and tuned in the passenger seat, they sure didn't mind that!

I don’t have a silly list of requirements. My car isn’t the space shuttle. Back when I had stock twins with a high boost of 12 psi I would totally let friends rip it up (with me in the car). Now that I am single at around 400 RWHP, no one drives it hard except for me. The reason is obvious: Safety. All of that applies to all that I know very well. Except for one person; my best friend. He has proved on TWO different occasions that he is a dumbass. So no go for him.

danny the donk
The ONLY time anyone will drive my 7 is if its Charlie at Mazcare or a few guys here around Fort Stewart that have helped me with my build that I trust, or my buddy parking one of my 7's after it gets off the truck and I am not there in person to park the car. To many times people want to **** around with the car.

When i took my car to a shop back in the day obviously they had to drive it.

My dad wants to drive the fd. After owning it 8 years he still hasn't..he rode in it once and that was it.

My rule is no one drives it but me. But I have to let my dad drive it only cause if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have owned one. Or at least the one i have now. Who knows what fd I would have bought. I probably would have gotten an mkiv supra since I was thinking about those as well.

No one under any circumstances. Not worth it to me in the slightest.

And I hate it when people ask, I mean really? why would I want to let you do that? I think it is rude to ask someone to drive their car unless you have a similarly performing car and the means to fix any mistake.

Although if they had a car in exchange like the end of a cruise mentioned above I was stoked to check out I could see the potential benefit.

That's why i almost all the time decline driving someone's car even when they offer it.

Because I would feel like a jerk if i say no when they ask me to drive my car yet I drove theirs.

Only time I drive someone's car is if:

They're not car people so they wouldn't drive my car.

Can't drive stick and they can't ask me.

I know they wouldn't get a chance to ask me to drive my car. (Since I only take the fd out on occasion)

Its a car I have to drive. Something worthy. More worthy than the fd. Which I did lol. 600hp supra, c6z for example

^ Agreed. I have had people offer to let me drive their performance car as well. I say "No thanks, passenger seat is just fine." It's simply not worth it. Regaurdless if I could buy their car twice over. Cars are personal property, and for an enthusiast like myself, it's not just about money. I have 100's of hours in my FD. It is not a car, it is a lifetime passion.

^ My car is no where near stock either but I do not have to babysit it while it warms up. You should check your tune and ignition system.

^lol, but seriously I don't even let the shops drive mine, I park it on and drive it off the lift if necessary. Last thing I need is someone flooding my car out because they didn't clutch it right and charging me extra labor hours because they had to unflood the system or they couldn't get the car running right.

Its not an opinion; it is a fact. You should not have to babysit the car and hold the throttle to keep it running while it is warming up, something is not right.

+1, something is off with your setup or tune, with everything listed in your sig you should be able to fire it right up and hold a stable idle without touching the accelerator pedal no matter what temp. Not sure why you would be upset with someone trying to help you get your car running properly vrx8.
