New to FD...what is the best intake, exhaust, and suspension for the 3rd gens?

Hey guys, sorry for my newb-ness, but im new to the 13b and RX-7 in general. I owned a 2004 Nissan 350Z and had to sell that a year ago to help fund a business start up. Now I am looking to get back into a sports car and decided I wanted to get into something a little less uncommon in my area and go with a car I have always wanted. I am looking to buy a 94 Montego Blue Touring FD. I want to get an intake and exhaust right away but don't know even where to start looking.

I've been doing searchs and am not coming up with any definent answers, and maybe Im just not searching for the right stuff, but I would like to hear everyone's opinions on the best intakes out there, the best exhausts out there, and the best suspension setups out there...

For exhausts, I would like to go with something that isnt going to be stupid loud or raspy, I like a deep throatier exhaust note, but also want something that is going to make some power....

For suspension, I love twisty roads. I want a setup that will provide a stiff setup and keep roll and sway to a minimum. If you could suggest a full suspension setup, ie. coilovers, sway bars, chasis braces, tie rods, etc. I would really appreciate it.

Basically, I think I am going to have about $4500 left over after the purchase of the car and want to get the most for my money. The car has a Mazda Reman with ~6k miles on it so if there is anything else that you all suggest I am open and listening.

Thanks for everyone's help and please don't flame me for my newbie questions...

Do all reliability mods first.

Most people will say Racing beat dual if you want quiet, I have the single and it's pretty loud. Almost any full 3inch exhuast is going to be loud tho. If you want power that = loud.

As far as intake any Pettit, M2,greddy,apexi,rx7store intake will work.

Please search more as anything you need to know is on this site.

A little tip on searching: Go to advanced and change it to search threads instead of posts. Searching through posts is ridiculous (and it should be changed to automatically search threads).

But any way reliablitiy mods first then do your intake and exhaust. Also pick up a power FC and a FSM.

Any downpipe
Racing beat dual cat back is the best for sound
eibach springs on stock dampers

The reason you didn't find any definite answers on the search is that there really aren't any parts that are the best for everybody. What are you going to use the car for (strictly street, some autocross, road race, etc)? How much do you really want to spend? These are just some examples of what you should be thinking about. Here's what help I can offer now.

Exhaust - this is really just personal preference. Any mandrel bent 3 inch will basically fulfill the need. The most popular catback with the club members seems to be the Racing Beat dual tip. Personally I've got the Apexi GT and love it since I'm not a dual tip guy, but it doesn't do it for everyone (my roommate said he can hear me 30 seconds before I pull in the drive).

Intake - You can just do the cheap bastard mod by Adam C (search) to tide you over. As far as intake kits, I'm partial to the Apexi cone filters myself, but its a good idea to get a box to make sure your not just sucking in more hot underhood air. Still this is a personal choice some guys are all about the RE, etc.

Suspension - This really depends on what you're after. Alot of street guys stick with the Koni yellows and the Eibach prokit and love it. I've got the Eibach prokit plus the Tokico illuminas, although I find them too soft for my liking. For coilovers you've got Tein, JIC, Silkroad, Apexi, and that's just a start. There are a lot of threads on this (check in the suspension forum) discussing the spring rates, customer services issues, you name it. The same thing goes for sway bars. For trailing arms, check out rx7.com they supposed have a nice set (never used them myself).

Before you dive head first into all of this, be prepared that there are going to be other things you'll probably have to take care of too. I know nothing about the car you're buying but look into the reliability mods (check the faq) such as downpipe, boost gauge, AST replacement or delete, etc. In addition be prepped for a lot of maintenance work such as spark plugs, spark plug wires, oil changes, diff oil change, tranny flush, coolant flush, fuel filter, etc.

Read through the FD faq, check out FD3S.net and http://www.rx7.org/Robinette/ I found them the most helpful for DIY references.

Welcome to the money pit!

The car is posted on a local car forum here in Cincinnati. I am going to look at it tomorrow but trying to get some research done first....

I really appreciate all the answers so far...

Here is some more info on the car I am looking at...

-Previous owner was a mechanic who was in his mid 40s and took great care of the car
-new mazda reman ~6k miles
-rebuilt 5-speed trans
-~20k rebuilt stock turbos
-apexi performance power fc with console mounted display (full standalone unit)
-h&r springs on r1 shocks
-245/45 toyo t1s on stock wheels
-full 3" exhaust w/hiflo cat & rb 2tip
-k&n drop in
-custom 944 smic
-koyo radiator w/ast illiminated
-battery relocated and minimized
-brakes good all around
-pettit pillar mount boost guage

Current owner has only owned it for 1year and only put 1500 miles on it because he owns 4 cars.

I was thinking about an HKS Carbon Ti exhaust. Haven't found any intakes yet but like the cone intakes but would prefer a box intake to keep hot air intake at a minimum. As far as suspension. I really will only use it for street drivng but love to hit up twisty roads as fast as possible. I prefer AutoX vs. Drag racing for sure...

I will do a search for all the reliability mods and definently make sure those are done ASAP...i had a bad experience when i was younger....bought a car with a built engine and a turbo kit on it, yet the gauges weren't hooked up properly...engine wasnt getting proper oil pressure and 5 days after buying it, the engine blew while driving it to a performance shop to have everything checked out...that was an exspensive lesson learned...lol

CLOSED. Please read the FAQ thread and use the search function to research basic questions before posting a thread.

My advice would be to leave the car alone for a while until you get to know it better. I always think it's funny that people want to make mods to a car they don't even own yet....
