ok so i always wanted an fe but could never afford one. So recently i found this fd at a good price. Now i always wanted an ls1 motor in it. So i found this fd that needs some parts . it alrready has hinson ls1 mounts, torque arms and tranny mount. It also cam with a cage welded in. No ac stuf or anything under dash. came with jacked up oem seats and some kirky racing aluminum seats. It also came with 4 original wheels and 3 volk te37's. The te37s are 19x9.5 in rear (2) an (1) 19x8.5 in the front. they have good tires so i just need to buy 1 more. so over all i paid 2800 for the car. its also missing the front end and suspension. So did i do ok or did i make a bad deal? please shine in on your toughts. thanks

 

damit i was thinking i did screw my self. i did have plans on an lsx engine. I plan on putting it back together to make it a fun street car, i plan on adding as much interior as possible and carpet and nice seats. but i do understand it will lack the need for ac but good thing it dont get past 85 degrees really were i live

 

Seems like a very very very long term project. Not sure if 2800 was a gud deal. seems a lil steep but im not sure

My first thought is that if you are questioning this now, you probably did make a mistake. You have taken on a $$huge$$ (can't stress that enough) project. Now, with that said, the price of the shell will be nothing compared to the end cost of everything else, so don't worry about that...

 

well i plan on finishing this car starting with all body stuff and paint, then moving into the interior and lastly the power plant. I already bought fenders and bumper, along with paint. just need a few lil things. i plan on having the body done and painted by the end of the year, interior by the end of next march and motor by the end of next summer

 

Seems to me like most of what you paid were for the Volks. If you have the time/money then I say you got a nice project ahead of you. Good luck!

 

Without glass, I probably would've paid $2k for that... if i were to embark on a project like that.

 

I think it just depends on how much money you want to put in it. That's how you should look at it, not "if I got a bad deal or not".

 

Wow that's a lot of work ahead of you! Be ready to put up some $$$$$ on that! Arizona temp. doesn't get higher than 85degrees? Don't know bout that... In SoCal maybe, AZ during summer=hell!

Hopefully you have though this through and planned out the project. If not, I would suggest STOP dumping money into this project immediately, sit down and do a realistic budget and plan. You’ll find that after all the parts and labor expenses, it’s going to cost a small fortune to finish the project. That’s even if you’re planning on doing most the work yourself. Keep in mind, FD parts aren’t exactly cheap and easily available. Let’s face it, if you’re going to put this much time and effort into doing a ground up rebuilt, you don’t want to half-*** it by cutting corners and using cheap parts.

I know alot of people enjoy the challenge and say the journey is the most rewarding part any rebuilt project. Trust me, when you’re a year or two into the project and looking at a $$$$ bill and a half finish FD sitting in your garage, frustration will kick in. By that time you’ll be neck deep into the built, with no easy way out. So, why not wait a little while and save up your money and get a running FD. It doesn’t have to be the perfect FD, just one that runs and you can enjoy while you mod it into your dream car. Which will still cost you a **** load of money, but at least you’ll have fun doing it. That’s just my $0.02

 

forget everything else buy the motor and worry about going too fast.. caring about looks and interior is pointless just build and drive. I offered the guy a grand for it like four times lol.. good deal with the rims if the three are flawless. wanna sell the full set of stockers??

If you go with tan interior off this forum it's a lot cheaper then black. If you don't like tan go to the interior section here and do the tan to black conversion should be cheaper.

 

you got one hell of a ride in front of you...but don't be discouraged...just know your gonna need to put a lot of TLNC (tendah luuve N Care) into that car.

 

Well, I've definitely seen worse, but 2800 is a bit steep for what you got...However, as stated, the rims balance out the cost to some degree.

 

Sell the volks, sell the current chassis you should be able to get your money back by doing that. Save another couple thousand and get a complete roller with full interior, seats, suspension, pedals, etc and you will save thousands in the long run.

Unless you have lots of money that you feel like spending AND love to rebuild projects from the ground up, I would take this advice.

Personally from the looks of it I would not trust much in this car, especially the wiring. Since this would be basically a ground up build the last thing you want to do is get it all together and then chase wiring issues... You would need the motor harness, but there are lots of other wiring harnesses that are very, very costly. If you search on here over a period of time you should be able to come up with a complete interior for not too scary of a price. But to buy it all new would cost over $10k in plastics, seats, and carpet.

I think if you are up to the challenge you have a decent plan. I would do it the same way you are going about it. Paint, suspension, wiring, interior, powertrain. It sounds easy when you put it that way, but boy is that a lot of work.. LOADS of fun though... Good luck with whatever you decide.
