from which I followed the link to Mazda Japan's site to:
http://www.rx-7.mazda.co.jp/equip1.html
(Spirit R Type A - 3,998,000 Yen)
http://www.rx-7.mazda.co.jp/equip2.html
(Spirit R Type B - 3,998,000 Yen)
http://www.rx-7.mazda.co.jp/equip3.html
(Spirit R Type C - 3,398,000 Yen)
http://www.rx-7.mazda.co.jp/equip4.html
(Type R Bathhurst - 3,398,000 Yen)
These are 2002, though I don't think think the '01 are too different in pricing.

If you are planning on importing it expect to pay alot of money to make it legal. So far the only car I know of that can be imported legally from japan is the Nissan Skyline. 95+ models will cost about 25,000 to import because you must change over to OBD-II and other legalization crap. (way too much if you ask me). The ones without OBD-II are atleast 15,000/ And I don't know if you can import other stuff because you must present crash data to be a legal street car and no one wants to give their car for crash data. Although there is someway around it, by registering it as a race car not a street car you can get it here, but now is a new problem (not street legal). I know alot about this because I was very close to buying a 94 Skyline GT-R, but decided to keep the RX-7 because I can't get the money to pay for all the legalization stuff. I have talked to the people at Motorex in California twice on the phone and once in person about it. These reason is why there is only one street legal right hand drive WRX in America(owned by Motorex)

there is a list of cars you can import.. err I think department of motor vehicles maybe? something like that.
the list is surprisingly long, actually. and the skyline is not on that list (which is why they are so friggin expensive to buy over here)

If you want to avoid the legal stuff.. What you could do is, bring it back in pieces and "use as parts".. All you need is good vin.. but then why would you want to do all that.. most parts are pretty much the same from 91-2003..
Skyline in the otherhand would be harder to do.. Unless you could cheat kind of the same way.. get wrecked nissan vin, and using that as a base and built one..
Only reason I know its possible is because I know some body men who buy and built cars base on title.. If the title is bad but another car in worse shape the title is good.. they just swap all the good parts.. same principle..

yeah, I know of somebody who took a s13 silvia back with a wrecked nissan sentra VIN.
also I know of some other folks who claim that you can take back any car you want, you just can't register it. so you can have a really cool japanese drag car. or whatever. I never tried to confirm that one though.
and also there is that 25 year clause too. you can take pretty much anything older than 25 years old back with you because it's a classic.
There is a late 70's skyline running around somewhere with an rb-26dett's in it that totally kicks ****. and some j-spec 280zx's with rb-26dett's etc etc.
there are ways around the rules, but most of them are costly or not worth doing.
I could have brought back my 90 300zx TT, but it wouldn't have been cost effective. better off just buying the american version and living with it, unless you have money to burn.

I also heard that you could bring back cars with military.. So, "dragula53" are you in military and could of brought back your 90 300z? I think best is to just import parts and build your car.. Like the 20B conversion.. Put it into fd and make 600RWHP at 12lb. You could probably do that yourself for about 12-17K or get pettit or some to do it for 20-35K...

Dang man....that's alot of **** to do. By the way, whats OBD-II? Guess it almost doesn't seem to be worth it if you want to import one....but does it make it easier to import one if you go the military route or whats the deal there? I'm seriously looking to buy an RX7 now...currently got a Probe GT, which is serving as my miniature RX7 ;P but I've seen a couple around and I'm hooked and have been hooked on the RX7 since I played Gran Tourismo 1. Also, what's the best US RX7 model to get 93-95? thanks for the help fellas.
