Newbie with a question about '85 RX-7 saleability.
Hi, I am the original owner of a 1985 RX-7 S model (base model.) It was taken off the road about 5 years ago with 49,000 miles on it.
My husband and I have been trying to bring it up to driving specs again but realize it's going to take too much time and money for us to do it ourselves (not to mention that we're really not mechanically inclined - LOL). It needs an exhaust system and new tires. It has a little bit of rust under the side body molding, but nothing too terrible. Fuel pump has been replaced and it will start with a lot of coaxing. A mechanic says he can get it running for us but will not quote a price. He said we might be better off selling it cheap to somebody who knows his way around the mechanics of a Rotary Rocket.
So, my question is, in your experience will I be able to sell it as-is? And what do you think a buyer will pay for it?
I have another option of donating it to charity and taking a tax deduction for it, but this was the first car that I ever became emotionally attached to, and I'm not so sure I want to donate it and get maybe $75 in deductions for it.
Any and all advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Donna

i saw your post in the lounge. it works as lounge material (everybody looks at the lounge ) but you may get more useful responses from the 1st gen section
i wouldn't donate it to charity - i would bet you could find someone via this forum who wants to buy your rx7.

She doesn't know what she wants for it, that's why she posted here... To try and get a good asking price, and to see if it could be sold...
I honestly don't think it's worth too much more than 500$, since sitting cars tend to need a *lot* more than just coaxing to make them reliable street drivers again. I know, I'm restoring one now that's been sitting 4 years! If I was in NJ, I'd offer that and offer to come pick it up tomorrow, but alas, I'm in Canada and that just won't work.
But I'll tell you one thing Donna, if you do sell it to someone in this forum, it will be well cared for. We love our Rx7s, and someone here will love to have yours.
Experts, throw some prices forward. Tell me if I'm insane, too low, too high, or right on the money. That's basically the *most* I'd pay for a sitting car (and that's CDN)...
