i wanted to change the head unit but retain the amps and eq and joystick on an 83 le unit. i've been hording 8 pin din connectors and think i have enough. so the question is does the factory head unit go through two din cables to the joystick or is it separate. i was thinking of using this head unit as it can change to an amber color.

Not sure if your LE head unit is different. All I know is the 83 unit that is in this thread's first post

It shows that the front L+R signals come out of the head unit and are faded/balanced by the joystick. Note that there's a typo in that diagram, it should be amp #1 and then "amp #2".
