I got the RB presilencer and Streetable header setup on my 7, i will install in the school shop this week. Since this replaces both cats (right?) there should be quite a bit of unburnt gas coming out of the exhaust. Ive seen those "flame thrower" kits which consist of a spark plug and coil and such... and it seems like i could make a freaking huge flame with no cats. What do you guys think?

it'll flame when you let off the gas. no kit needed. exhaust pipe is HOT. excess gas going into the pipe ignites.

i used to throw 3 foot flames out the pipe on the racetrack 8800rpm shifts!

Ok, correct me if im wrong. I still have a muffler of course. But what do i do to get flames out of the muffler without installing? Im in an automatic as well.

Ok, yes your car should flame, most of them do, hell mine does, all I have is a straight pipe and a muffler, on a stock 13b sixport efi, and it still flames, but it has to backfire to flame, and its loud, and annoying, yes its cool to watch but annoying, oh and it also blew all of the baffels out of my muffler onto the pavement in the form of glowing red shrapnel. I have a manual so I dont know how you'll be able to let the car engine brake unless you shift it, but thats hazardus to your tranny. Most 7's at least the carb'd ones will flame reguardless once the exhaust gets up to temp, all mine does is backfire and explode so good luck!

mine didn't backfire when it flamed.

when i lifted to shift, i heard what is best described as a growling go all the way down the exhaust pipe. flame's on it's way!

it was running rich most of the time; i bet the fuel jets were .10 to .20mm too big.

What if you were to put in the tailpipe some kind of hotwire like some MAP sensors have. Those thing burn red (actually white) hot and could in my head ignite some serious gas. THe problem is those require electricity. Is there some type of coil of metal like a brass or soft metal that would get hot enough to combust gasses? That would rock.

See, what people are saying is, don't do anything to it. It will shoot flames as is. I think the old saying is, "If it ain't broke, DON'T **** WITH IT".

One of mine will shoot flames with RB headers, a presilencer, and an uncapped (open) Supertrapp.

I realize that shooting flames looks cool, but that's just the warning sign of unburnt gas. Unburnt gas is hardly cool.

What can you do to fix this hazard?

i've seen very well tuned 1st gen gsl-se with nice aftermarket efi computers flame the pipe. it's just part of the game.

the problem with flame thrower kits is that they usually rely on cuting power to the coil to make gas flow into the exhaust that their little kit then ignites. Unfortunately turining off the ingnition cutout causes an exhaust system backfire (aka keybanger). What you want is to have the kit system installed but leave out the bit that kills your ignition.

After a bunch of searching I found a wiring dig on how to do one,.... and its really easy.

It uses a 5 pin relay to produce a pulsing/oscilating current (like an old fashioned electro-mechanical door bell), then a small transistor to amplify the power, then a coil and a spark plug. Mine cost about $20Aussie dollars, and half of that was for the alloy case and I bought two of all components!

This will enable you to have a glowing sparkplug in your post muffler tail pipe - and with the usual overfueling on decel, flamage ought to be yours.

I have a racing beat header and presilencer and stock exhaust after that, The muffler is pretty blown out though, It will shoot a 2 foot flame without me even trying.

My car never shoots flame. It used to, but after the RB header/presilencer was installed it stopped backfiring and flaming. All it does now is blow more oil on startup. I'm assuming that the TR burned what little oil it puffed before it got to the pipe.
