Passenger mirrors were incorporated in late 78 / early 79 production vehicles. By June of 79 when they started 1980 production, all the cars came with 2 door mirrors.

My 80 GS came with the Red-dot seats (I think I left some skin on mine, peeled off in hot weather. oy!), so sometimes trim like that can be a bit inconsistent. I have _never_ seen an 80 without door pockets so this is a first for me!

beautiful car in a fairly unusual color for a 1980. Mileage IS amazing, and condition seems to match. Would LOVE to see what the undercarriage looks like if its anything like the top! (but you mentioned it was undercoated, so maybe all the shine metal bits down unda are covered up?).

As said by others here, the fact its a base model AND someone took a saw to the roof does it no favors, at least to the knowledgeable RX7 buyer, so I would call anything over $5K generous. Considering what you paid for it new, nothing in todays market price is going to offer anything like an "investment return" so I would keep it and enjoy it. If this level of care continues, you will get a decent dollar for it anytime you decide to move on. Just don't think it will be putting anyone thru College or a down payment on your retirement

I totally missed the door pannels! Your right Stu. Now I'm curious, are these original to the car? They look like early build 78 door cards only with the chrome accents that were added in 1980.

Just like you.....always wanting to peek under the skirt.

Banzai's got it right. All US production 80's had 2 door mirrors. Most later-year build 80's are even harnessed (up to the hinges) for power mirrors (& windows), though I believe the 80 LS models were the only US production units which actually came with power mirrors.

The 79 Limiteds had power mirrors both sides, but the harnessing differed somewhat - connectors were different, as I recall.

DD, The north american "79 Limited" had standard non power mirrors. Are you refering to the JDM "Limited" models? They might have had power mirrors as the entire Japenese domestic lineup had things that were later added to their export models.

Hmm... Could just be that I'm remembering wrong.

I was thinking of the 10th-Anniversary edition, which I thought was the same build. The gent I bought my power mirrors off of pulled them and their harness from a purported 10th-Anni Limited.

That could be, 10th A/E's were 1980 models. Resissance Red with grey & red striped seats. Not sure what mirrors they had. Mazda applied the scheme to Rx-7's, 626's and its other models celerbrating 10 years in the US market. Something like 2500 produced of each model. The 79 Limited was an RX-7 only model, Beat Black w/grey velour & dark blue seats. 3000 Limiteds were built sometime between Feb/ March of 79.

this is incorrect info. ALL 80 RX-7's came with dual mirrors. none were power other than the Leather Sport's. the only models that didn't have a passenger side mirror were the early early 79's. they also have the hood prop on the passenger side.
