I just recieved my version of the new software .. version 1.66

After looking at all the poor reviews of the last version (1.62) I was a little hesitant to get the new software, but decided to give it a go anyways ...
here's my take on the software:

1) software running on a 1.4ghz Centrino laptop with 256MB ram, Windows XP as an operating system.. I'm connecting via a USB to serial adaptor .. While the software takes longer to initially load than the original software (the one without datalogging), I was pleasantly surprised that it actually loaded the maps from the cpu quite a bit quicker.. it also wrote my maps to the ecu in half the time the old software used to.. I have seen none of the reported lag some people have reported with the 1.62 version when it came to the onscreen gauges .. If anything, the gauges seemed to respond better than the original software...

2) I tried out the dataloging and experienced no crashes in the software so far... however, the datalogging graphs do not display real time as mentioned by someone else while you are actually recording .. I'm pretty sure this is done to ensure that the maximum number of samples can be recorded.. while a bit of a disapointment, the recorded files I did play back looked great...

3) I really like the ability in the new software to highlight ranges of cells in your maps and make global changes to those cells.. this certainly makes tuning that much quicker then to have to go through each cell individually when you have a particular range you want to increase or decrease...

4) I tried out the V500 software and found this very similar, however one item I found the v500 software had over this software was the way it displayed the staging maps.. the V500 software displayed staging via a load vs rpm map.. much like the fuel map .. this makes it alot easier to visualize what's happening with staging.. the v400 software continues with the original v4 software by presenting you individual load and rpm maps...

5) the original software had a calibration map for the o2 sensor.. people have said that this didn't work.. I guess AEM decided that it would be easier to just remove the whole ability to calibrate the o2 sensor input and get rid of the calibration table that to make it function...

6) the layout of the new software wasn't thought out very well.. while the 3d map and gauge screens are nice to look at, they take up way to much realestate when you need to make changes to the maps .. It would be great if you could hide those displays, like you can with the folder tree..

7) I'm running a PLX r-500 wideband.... while the plx's datalogging system is more than adequate, it would have been great if the wolf could accomodate the 0-5V input to make use of the datalogging... as it stands, while it's nice to finally have more than min-max datalogging with the wolf, it's kind of pointless with no wideband logging to go along with it .. I can't imagine it would have been to hard for AEM to simply allow 0-5V input with a calibration table in this unit ... I wonder if this was more of a marketing ploy than anything else.. to make the v500 standout a little more .. It would have been possible to just feed the wideband signal into one of the aux inputs (they have calibration tables that could be setup).. however the datalogging does not allow you to datalog the aux inputs either.. what do you guys think the chances are that they will eventually accomodate something like this?

Well.. those are just my quick impressions of the new software .. While my experience has not been one of buggy software, there have been some improvements which were appreciated, and some limitations which disapointed as well ...

As for giving the software out... I'm sure that this software will eventually find itself freely availible to download, seeing as it is given for free to anyone purchasing a v400 unit..however, I did end up forking over money for it to get a copy to run on my V4 system.. If you already purchased 1.62, perhaps you should contact wolf and ask them to email you a copy of the latest version?
