How much is the wolf3d and where can you purchase it?
 
I have been doing some research on the wolf 3d ems but i cannot find pricing or a place to purchase one. If anyone can give me some links please let me know.

Waynespeed, Pettit, and Checkpoint know about rotary engines, but I'm not sure about the others.

Also on that front page are links to the FREE tuning software (you need both "disks"), manuals, and spec sheets.

Price is about $1,400 USD (includes ECU, wiring harness with all necessary sensors, hand controller, and one memory cartridge), depending on the exchange rate between the US dollar and the Australian dollar.

Is this some type of special pricing, or did the price drop? Their web site still lists the price as $1,380 USD.

The believe the price depends partly on how many are ordered at a time, and what the exchange rate is.

Checkpoint is the place to get one. Chris is the North American distributor, and knows more than anyone about them. Plus he's building my motor and helping me out a lot :D

I agree, Chris is the Man.
He also is the importer, and a real good guy.
Dealt with him on and off for several years, and never once had any form of problem or issues.
He is very good people.

I think Checkpoint has some V3's. FYI the V3 will require modifications to the CAS, it has no boost control, it cannot work with the stock BAC, and it has very minimal resolution when compared to the V4. Also, I think I remember something about the V3 not being able to work with the S5 ignition system, but you would need to ask Checkpoint about that. Anyway, the V4 fixes everything I just listed.

The V4 has only been out for about a year now, so a used one is going to be tough to find.

I didn't mean to scare you away from the V3, but I just wanted you to know that it is a little more difficult to set up, and it is nowhere near as advanced as the V4. I have two friends using the V3 on their NA 13B's, and both of them are happy with it. One of them even has a spare V4, but he is saving it for another car because the V3 is running the engine just fine. I think the V4 is a much better EMS for a turbocharged car, though.

I don't know about the email, but Checkpoint has always been helpful every time I have called.

thanks. you did not scare me away. im still between haltech and wolf. if i can get a good price on a wolf then i will go wolf. i know there are pros and cons of each but what ive read on each i like the wolf better. but if someone offers me a good price on a haltech then i may have to go with that. i guess it depends on what chris says from checkpoint.

Yes, the Haltech and Wolf products have enough differences where it can be difficult to decide between the two brands. However, they will both work well. I would suggest the Wolf V4 and Haltech E11 (once the bugs are worked out) with built-in boost control for your turbocharged car, but the Wolf V3 and Haltech E6 will also work fine if you want to save some money. Buying whichever you can get for a good price is an excellent idea. Too many people seem to get all bent out of shape on brand names.

I don't see the memory cartridge listed, but I think I see it attached to the ECU. The modified CAS is good, but make sure it was modified in a professional manner, or at least in a method that will work. Make sure the wiring was modified in a professional manner, as improper wiring mods are one of the leading causes of frustration with a standalone EMS. If the harness is bad, you can buy a new one, but that is going to be something like $150. You may want a new O2 sensor if yours is old and nasty. The narrow-band O2 sensor works a lot better for tuning than what you hear on this forum, and regardless of tuning it works great as an engine monitor. I think the software only works in the older versions of Windows, such as 95 and 98, but I can't remember exactly because that was several years ago, lol.

With this or any other standalone EMS, I recommend that you get some help from a friend who is really good at electrical wiring (you know, one of those guys who uses heat shrink and knows how to solder, etc.) to help you with the installation. Then, get some help with the initial tuning, even if you have to pay for it. Once it is initially tuned, you will probably be able to make small changes on your own.

I run a Wolf v3.1 on my turbocharged Neon, and it is a very underrated unit. Though I dont get to use them, it has several rotary specific settings, and was easy as pie to setup and get the car running. It does not have boost control, but it does use a 3-Bar sensor, so it recognizes boost (and plenty of it!)

I like the display for monitoring, and the additional cartridges/programs are nice for different fuel tunes and rev limits (heh imagine valet mode where it wont go above 1500 rpm.. :)) Its also nice to not HAVE to use a laptop, but the ability to offload the map to a PC to smooth everything out is cool. Its tough to visualize the 3d fuel/ignition maps in 2d mode, but can be done. Plus its my ghetto Digital dash (until I can afford that STACK cluster..)

All in all I am real happy with the unit, and its capabilities have never left me short. I imagine the increased MAP resolution and additional features of the V4 would make a solid unit even better, and I may upgrade mine when I move it to a rotary application.
