Auto tuner in progress

Ok I have started planning the inital phases of a Auto tuner for the wolf based on my Wolf logger.

hey michael, interesting program idea, let me know if you need help, i got that vb 2005 installed, seems to be a pretty nice package compared to vb6.

let me know,
kevin.

Hi Kevin, the biggest single problem is building the fuel table from the logon data and then rewriting the data back to the ecu on the fly. I have not started the code yet but have layed out how I will approach the program.
I will install VB2005 on my Workshop computer when I upgrade it to XP Pro it is currently Win 98. I have lots of programs I have written in VB6 that I would like to migrate to VB2005 but have not enough time to do that yet. I will look at putting XPpro on my Workshop as long as my video monitoring software/hardware still works.

writing on the fly i would picture being one of the bigger problems, the wolf's capable of reading a changing map on the fly (havent got mine installed yet, still waiting to rebuild my engine, god im lazy)

but anywho its a great thing to have you as a wolf user, youre very helpful to everyone, and apparently much better then AEM is lol.

hey michael, i just wanted to say i love your ideas, i was just saying a year ago to myself "i wish there was a program that did this for me" as i was driving while logging and then parking in the garage and taking all those values in the cells and calculating all of them individuly and entering them in and now you are making a program that does exactly that, so thanks for your time and effort and ambition!!!!!

Hi RotorMotor2, I will have finish hacking the logger this week and remove all the little bits I was using to decode unknown data. I think you will be happy :bigthumb:

I am still wanting to see the New Wolf software though, I think I get more accurate info from it as well!

Cheers

Hi George,
Getting closer. Just a couple of things to
finish up. About 2 weeks to go. Around the end of
the month.

Best regards,

Steve..

hey michael, how will this work, do i use my innovate lm1's narrowband simulator and run that into my wolf and then your logger will get that reading for the AFR's? and is that accurate enough for your auto tuner to tune my map? am i making sense? i see the AFR value on your program wolf logger and im wondering if that is going to be one of the values that your wolf auto tuner program is going to use along with load and rpm for which cell to change.......

RotorMotor2 01-16-06 01:42 AM

george 2 weeks said that email? dont get me excited,...... myself along with many others have been waiting how long?, like a year or more with false promises of new software and no results? i see no news of this on their website.... come to think of this, i have never seen a change to their website........... to be continued......

Yeh Jeremy..... I am quoting Steve in AU! end of january is the release date............. thats all i can say, coz that is all i know. I was told to tell you guys that it will be out. It was going for 'a beta' release end this month.

I dont think that steve will say something out of thin air. I am confident that by February we will be running the software! with michael's innovative auto tuner.... the wolf will be a biggggggg Hhhittttttttt!!!

I look forward for it as much as you guy are!! RLC.... what have you to say on the topic?

RLC should have info from the drawing board.... i hope..

George

OK the basic plan is made on scraps of paper and cardboard cheese ring box (sounds like I am building a space ship where the bloody tape and Q straps)because I didn't have any paper when the ideas came. Basically this is how it will work .... I think you would like this idea RotorMotor2.....it will have Min rpm, Max Rpm then for each load point you can set the voltage target. If it sees the accellerator pump in action or the tps varies by more that 3% or the tps goes to less than 2% it will not do anything. If the TPS is stable and the Accell pump is not working and within the target rpm range it will attempt to tune to you Voltage at that load. If it is lean it will add 10 Hex(adjustable) to richen it up quickly and if rich will take 2 hex off if it is more than 0.04 Volts above the target Voltage and 1 Hex if it is 0.02 Volts above target. Once the target Voltage has been met that point will be locked for 10 samples to determine if it needs to go a little leaner.
It will also only work with the motor above 85C (open to suggetsions here).

I have moved some files across readly for the assult and Named it Wolf Autotune.

Ideas anyone????

Why not reduce the tempreture to 80 deg c and above? I mean normal ops temp is above 80degC.... and each car varies..... like on idle after a long run my running water temp drops to 78-82 degC......

OK it is not too hard to give a range from say 75 - 99 C user selectable.

Any other suggestions??? Also with the Auto tuner you will have Calibration file for the AFR reading as to allow for Narrow and wide band sensors but the guts of the tuner will not be AFR but the output VOLTAGE, the AFR is only there to keep a eye on it. I have put together the last version of Wolf Logger but I am yet to test it(until the latest version of Wolf software comes out that is, their may be some good info in the new version). When I am happy with it I will release it on my software page and let you all know.

Wolf Logger + :Kill1: +    + :wallbash: +    +:weedpoke: ==Auto Tuner
Wrote some code tonight for the layout of the Auto Tuner it will log like the logger does it will also output a list of changed cells with before and after this will be a separte log. It has a big red button that goes green when the Tuner is in action actually tuning. A box to see what it is changing and well who really knows what else I will add. You still have the AFR display too! ETA? when the beer runs out maybe?
It also has fuzzy logic control too, the beers do that!!!! :fingersx:

Cheers
Michael Smith

RotorMotor2 01-19-06 01:56 AM

Can i have one? ha ha an e-beer maybe? so what is fuzzy logic exactly? all i know of it is my battery charger has it so it knows when my battery is charged to stop charging.
also to get creative, couldnt you make a tuner that looks at how fast the rpm's increase durring full accelleration and change the timing to make that happen faster with like a safety factor? man my mind is starting to storm now, in the future you can ultimately make like 2 or 3 runs on the dyno and be done in under 15 min's and save you a fortune! it could even alert you of problems: "fouled plugs" or "leaky injector" or "boost leak".......... someday........ until then, keep up the good work!

Michael Smith 01-19-06 05:25 AM

RotorMotor2 the single biggest problem is that the Wolf is too slow to give me data back. If newer versions of the wolf supported a "Knock Sensor" or we could make a interface that would work with the standard S4 /S5 sensor and output a analog voltage to the Wolf via a Aux input to retard the timing. George and I had discussed this before. Maybe we could later work on a serial port Knock sensor that uses a S4 conditioner and a small Micro processor to output data stream to a second port and get some software to read that too! 2 ports...one to the Wolf (Auto tuner)the other to the Knock detector..

Head spinning here I will grab another UDL to spin it the other way!!!!
Fuzzy logic just means that it makes its own decision on what to do just like humans do but on a much lower level. ( much like someone who is drunk)

For the moment I can only do fuel and people will still need to Dyno to get the timing bit :)

Ok added a configuration file to the Auto Tuner so that the settings you close your program on are saved..if it works ok I will add it to the logger as it is a pain to have to keep selecting the com port every time. I didn't do it before becasue it was too much effort for little gain but the auto tuner has heaps of settings so it now becomes worthwhile. Once working I will strip it down for the logger!!!

OK I have decoded the fuel data map and how it is loaded into the laptop. I have decoded how it writes the data to a specific map point. I have rearranged the layout too!

I should have a test run this week without it adjusting the wolf to see if it picks the right points to tune first. I will get it to spit out a list of points to change before I trash my good map. It looks different to the logger but still has all the key features.

awesome hopefully itll be done around the time i get my whole setup dropped into my 7, woo. then i cant at least get it tuned enough to drive 2 hours to my tuner.

kevin.
