Northern California Rotary shop thread

As stated. The old thread is down so i'm making a new one. The only ones I remember were...

Rick's Rotary in Pleasanton - http://www.ricksrotary.com/

PR Motorsports - http://www.prmotorsports.com

Forum member Karack - I can't recall if he has a website, but you can search for him.

Please post up any Northern California rotary shops that I missed as it's probably a lot.

Search keywords: rotary repair shop shops turbo tune rebuild port reman re-manufactured engine

Thanks guys!

My buddy and I do rebuilds from home (we are located in Oakland and I am currently looking for a shop to rent).
Budget rebuilds starting at $1800 short block,
New apex seals and O rings.
We also offer removal and installs and other mechanical and diagnostic work for rotary powered cars.

I met a guy tonight on highway 9 who says his name is Ivan, he said that he works on rotaries, and is well known in the community, has anyone hear of this guy? Is he legit? I live in the south bay, he said lived in Sunnyvale.

Sorry Deus,
I just dont Like working on AC systems except for removing them.
There could be a few spots you sprung a leak from starting from the most likely to least

Front AC condensor located in front of the Water Radiator

Remove each line and check the ends for leaks and cracks.

Broken or blown O rings

Bad compressor

ECT.

Put some pressure into the system and listen for leaks, this is the first way I would check.

Ivan's been around forever and he is well known in the Bay Area. Pretty honest guy that does good quality work. He's the guy with the FD in his living room!!! I sold him one of my S5 TII's a few years back and saw it for myself. Sure enough, under a car cover in the middle of his living room was a FD that still had the new car smell!:rlaugh:

BullDog Auto Center

I drove my RX3 up to Willits last weekend... Is the rotary scene big at all in your area?
i wish i had been around to see that.
ive yet to see a rx3 in person yet. what'd you head up to willits for?
the rotary scene is not very strong up here, theres a few around but besides myself and fastline there pretty slim to find anyone that knows anything about what a rotary even is.

if you are in the ukiah/willits/mendo county/sonoma/lake county area,
Bulldog Auto Center in ukiah. Adam's a easy guy to get along with and knows his sh^t.

Malikai229 01-06-08 02:05 AM

Bulldog Auto Center

Hey, im trading my buddy for his s4 next week.
He overheated it and the motor is toast. I'm not sure if it needs new housings or
what but i've been looking for a shop close by and ukiah is really reasonable. I'm
pretty new to the 7 scene. I just want to get it running and see what its like to drive it!

RotaryEvolution 01-30-08 06:10 PM

i have more than a few spots opening, the shop will be almost completely empty in a week.

SmogSUX 01-30-08 10:09 PM

Oye Karackk
IF the pos paint shop ever decides to finish my car I have a few things you can do :) Rear urethane bushings, finish up that meth kit, tuning..I think I'm forgetting a few things..
If I only had the money to do a 20B swap on my Z :(....

gregk 02-19-08 12:46 AM

Someone mentioned this already, but I figured I always say this...Rotorsport in Santa Clara. www.rotorsport2.com Paul is the man! lol.

theedn 02-24-08 03:17 AM

im really knew to the rx7 crowd, and i need to get my engine rebuilt and put new seals in it. i live near santa rosa anyone know somewhere that does it cheap im broke? ><

EvilAreXeven 03-01-08 07:50 PM

Does anybody up here do "comprehensive" rebuilds? THe car I bought was just rebuilt 12k miles ago. All the hard seals should be fine i hope. But the coolant seals are definitely dying. Anybody know of a shop that will replace JUST my coolant seals for me?!??!??

RenoCYM 03-02-08 06:12 PM

Karak, are you still doing rebuilds? If so, how can I reach you, I live in Reno.

dial8 03-02-08 06:27 PM

I wasn't yelling at you, just the trend hopper above. Rebuilds require a lot of patience and clean work space, so if you don't feel comfortable doing it your self no prob. Karack is really good, he's just really busy most of the time. He's worth the wait, but depending on your time frame and budget shipping just the block to Kevin @ Rotary Resurrection is the next best. Junflower,:icon_no2:, only works on S5 N/A so if you're turbo or turbo or S4 N/A you're fucked.

JunpoweR 03-22-08 08:03 PM

Junflower!!
You Hole dial8 lol.I am turbo or turbo too!
I work on all rebuilds S4-S5-FD mostly.Turbo or non turbo dosent matter.
I stopped doing other work and engine swaps.
I am open to short/long block rebuilds currently.

theedn 03-28-08 07:59 AM

yeah i dont have much of a budget at all lol.. how much do you guys figure it would be for a rebuild....seals and stuff

Natey 03-28-08 08:20 PM

I've been calling around the Bay Area, looking for someone to do the dreaded vacuum hose job for my FD, and everyone I've talked too has pointed me in the direction of rotorsport2.
I talked to PR, Mr.Mazda, Hidden Valley Auto, etc, and they all recommend rotorsport2. I dunno if those guys are any better than the others, but it appears that they've got more patience.

for the record. :)

VincenzoL 03-29-08 01:03 PM

The other shops can be decent for some stuff but they only like the easy jobs. They want quick turn around and easy money which is why they are just telling you to take it somewhere else.

Yeah, take it to Paul over at Rotorsport. He's done thousands of vacuum lines on FD's so it's nothing he hasn't seen before. He knows what he's doing so no need to worry.

theedn 04-04-08 03:55 PM

Karack's mail box is full lol..if you see this karack i was wondering about a rebuild!

RotaryEvolution 04-06-08 02:35 PM

i will just leave my number since i sometimes take extended breaks from the forum when i'm focusing on getting work done. sorry to those who were trying to reach me. (went from empty to over full in less than a week)
