Just want to give a little friendly advice,

Anyone getting tuned...I can't stress how important it is to make sure you are up on you maintinance before a tune. Or no major issues ( boost leaks, water leaks, oil leaks ) Not taking care of stuff like this can put your engine in a compromised situation. You are going to be pushing your car back to back. Also not taking care of maintinance can lead to complicated trouble shooting if problems do arise. Clogged fuel pump can cause low fuel pressure ( Which could mean a number of things. Bad spark plugs can make it look like your running super rich because the fuel isn't being burned... Just little stuff that can cause delays and hicups that can be easily avoided with what should be regular maintinance.

Nick... If the shop is giving you a deadline like can't be open past dark, be sure to take into consideration strap on and off times. It's something when I first started putting these together I did not account for as well as the tuner wanting to eat or take a small break if its going to be a full day. I found that 4 cars seems to be the number you can hit in a 8-9 hour day. Figure 25-35 min between each car. About 1 1/2 hours to 2 1/2 hours depending on complexity of the set-up bewteen initial set-up, tuning, cooldowns, troubleshooting and drivability.

i figured about 4 cars per day but possibly 5 depending on how quickly they can be done in, the PowerFCs should go relatively quickly followed by the microtech and Rtek taking the longest of the bunch since each cell has to be adjusted induvidually. the haltech n/a will take a bit also.

boost leaks are fairly common and can cause the largest issues when trying to reach upper HP goals, a test fixture can be made with a standard air compressor, plumbing fittings from home depot and a tire valve stem from an auto parts store. pressurize the system and spray the intake system down with a soapy mixture and listen for hissing sounds and bubbles rising off of certain areas.

tune up components are a good idea also as said, new spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, rewire your fuel pumps, etc. the last thing you want is to spend $300-400 to find out your car has issues that need to be resolved. quick fixes can be done on the dyno, things that can take hours you will be stuck with doing at a later time.

Does the dyno have it's own wideband? I've got a wideband installed but it's used pretty good so not sure how accurate the calibration is anymore.

Also I've got the Haltech E6K N/A.

Since it's a racecar, it only really needs the full throttle and maybe 70% throttle and above maps done. It also has a 4.88 rear end with 225/45-15 tires so really maybe 5000 rpm up to about 8500 rpm (I usually shift at 8000 rpm or about). The tune right now, it's drivable and feels pretty good at WOT but the off full throttle needs help. So hopefully won't take too much of your time.

i believe they had one setup when i tuned there last time, the dyno wideband is just for an example reading though, i don't tune based off of anyone elses wideband but my own techedge unit.

Does your wideband go in the tailpipe? Or do I need to remove my wideband from the exhaust bung beforehand?

His goes in the exhaust bung. Most setups have fairly easily accessible locations. I know I can swap out my 02 with a wideband 02 in about 3 minutes.

Thanks for the heads up Chris. The shop isn't super strict. It's just that it's in a semi questionable neighborhood and they don't want any thugs or anything popping out at night. Didn't happen last time I was there, but you never know. Also a few of us on here are friends with the shop owner's nephew, so we shouldn't have any issues. I'm estimating a total of 6-7 people will get their car's tuned (myself included), so we should be fine fitting in those cars over 2 days.

So what time will the tuning begin?

Just as an FYI, I will not be tuning my FD. I don't have the PFC yet and I don't have the time to gather the funds for the PFC, deposit and tuning. I just moved again and I got raped in moving costs...

And yes it will be at 8am.

I'll be there at 7:30am Saturday for the first slot and to get my car strapped on the dyno early. I have a fairly new engine and turbos, so things should be pretty straight-forward. And there's also wideband bung on my downpipe :)

I have a prior engagement later in the day, so I need to be gone by noon.

Everyone be sure to bring the balance for Karack and the dyno shop.

I think he said $200 per car for tuning. $70 per hour on dyno. So just minus the $100 deposit I guess, and then depends on how long your on the dyno.

the rest of the payment depends on how long the tune takes. it isn't a straight up $100 per car tuning fee, i have to eat after all so i'm not quite that cheap.. ;) tuning is $85 per hour and i doubt any car is going to take as low as 1.2 hours, expect each car to take around 2 hours depending on the setup, issues and how much tweaking they will need. that said the average will be around $170 per car so expect to need about another hundred to pay for the remainder of the tuning costs plus about $150 for dyno fees for an overall total cost of about $325. if your car is going to take longer than expected i will let you know so you can plan accordingly after i see what i have to work with.

make sure you also bring fuel for a few hours of run time, i'm going to go nuts on anyone who brings their car in with no fuel! :mad:

Okay...cash it is, sorry for dumb questions it's my first tuning session.

As Chris said, I hope everyone did their maintenance prior to their tune. For example, when Steve came the other weekend to tune, I changed my spark plugs, I got an oil change, replaced the fuel filter (this was needed anyway), tightened up all my couplings and zip tied all vacuum lines.

Since it's only a few days away, I guess we only have five cars? Are we still doing two days or try to fit everyone in one day? Do we have an order of the cars being tuned?

We're aiming for them all on Saturday. We'll probably do the easier cars to tune first then go from there. We should be able to get everyone done. I'll go last-I'm in no hurry.

Just wanted to get back to you. I am still in the break-in period and am not certain I will be able to get enough miles on it, so schedule me last if at all. If I can make it, I will. If you need to know right now, count me out.

Car has new stock engine, stock twins, PLX wideband and a datalogit with the usual mods (air intake, downpipe, 1300cc secondaries, rewired Denso fuel pump, fast AIT sensor). It was last tuned by Steve Kan, so currently has his ignition map and PIM ordering.

So if I do show up, it shouldn't be a complicated tune (knock on wood).
