Good shop to install rear brushings in So. California?
 

Just want to get some feedback on a shop that can install my rear brushings in Southern California...

Not me. I have a base that I drive 200 miles a month. It sits in the garage 5 days out of the week.

Ah.. sounds like my car. :) Now that I think of it GoRacer (Rob) just had his changed a couple months back, PM him because I can't remember off the top of my head where he had it done.

I have never had my FD worked on by rotary racing and reliability, but the owner is a friend of my father's and he has always been a good guy when I was around him. If they were close to me I would have them do work on my car. Josh

Mazdatrix can't do them. I mean, I'm sure if you really wanted them to they will, but I asked and John said he really recommended taking it to a suspension shop because it would be a better deal. I bet Tri-point could do them, they are EXPERTS with suspension, thats why they win so many races. Never been there though.

i took my car to rotary reliability a couple of times and was unhappy with their service. Nick seemed like a nice guy, but "nice" doesnt fix my car. Either him or his mechanics or any combination are incompetent or just dont care. They took too long and forgot to put some parts back onto my car. Do a search, you'll find others with the same experience. I do all work myself now, bushings are pretty easy to install if you have access to a hydraulic press with the right fittings.

Mazdatrix did mine and they have them "in stock".
The problem is, try getting an appt!!! They only have 1 guy (John) and enough work for 6 guys all the time. The rates were good and it took about 4 days. I would have to look up the prices but there is really only about 4 bushings that wear out. Yes, the others can wear out but most common is those 4.

Tri-point is expensive but you can actually make an appt. You can easily get bumped down at Mazdatrix. Tri-point is about 2hours north of Orange County though (traffic sucks).

If you choose RR&R, I sugest purchasing the bushings from Mazdatrix. They allready know the common ones that go bad. The only reason I say that is, RR&R wil buy them from Mazdatrix and your car will sit there waiting unless you prepay but most likely they will want your car there to examine which bushings.

I do not know if Tri-Point carries them in stock. The bushings seem to be a PITA by the lack of enthusiasm when I wanted them done, kinda like the hose job.

If you need the part #'s and prices, I can post when I get home.

RR&R - I've had both good and bad experiences.
Mazdatrix - Excellent work but getting an appt is as easy as getting a date wit a supermodel.
Tri-Point - Reminds me of a nudy bar. You leave happy but broke.

Oh, I was referring to Jim's unobtanium bushings when talking about Mazdatrix. And ditto on the appointments, I practically have to beg them to take my car but John knows his stuff. We need to clone the guy about 3 or 4 times. He didn't want to have to machine the fittings just for that job, but if you're talking about the stock bushings, its really the ball-joints that tend to wear out, and they keep those as well as other stock pieces in stock. Shh, don't tell anyone else about Mazdatrix I don't need the line to get any longer...

Man, I don't have much choices: Mazdrix: busy as hell, R R and R: don't recommend, and TriPoint: too expensive

I brought mine to RR and R once, but it was just for an oil..what are they good for? Ports?

Are bad rear brushings what cause the clunk in the back end?

Another option is Japanese Car Clinic in Harbor City. They specialize in RX-7s and always seem to have a couple of 3rd gens on the lot getting serviced. Haven't spent too much time over there but they are very reasonable and also seem to know their stuff. Very professional too but probably not a good shop for custom work.

ive had nothing but great experiences with rotary reliability and racing. I dont use any other shop any longer. Nick and his boys earned my trust long ago and they are the nicest most helpful guys of any shop i have dealt with. they are also good about getting your car in and done when they say.

back a while ago they had a mechanic that was not putting all the parts back on the cars he worked on...even mine went missing bolts on the shifter....THEY FIRED HIS lAZY butt...so things have changed. there have been some very very very nice fds over there and all are performing well.

mazda trix is great from what i hear but reaching them is impossible and wait times galore....

tripoint is good too...but better sell the relatives into slavery before you go there. they charge through the ying yang....though the work they did on my car was great.

Yes, and they are actually spearical bearings inside a rubber bushing. Hmm, wait am I remebering that right. Well, it's something like that and they cause the clunk un stop, reverse, slow speed.

I'm sorry to bump up an old thread, but I was searching for reputable socal locations for installing bushings. I recently picked up a SuperPro 24 piece kit and was wondering about installation prices. Please help!

find a machine shop to push the bushings in for you. All you need are 14-19mm sockets and you'll be fine. Autozone sells a 25 pc kit for $30. You'll save a lot of money that way.

Thanks for the advise! Still comes down to the fact that I don't have the ability to breakdown the car's suspension components. If I were I'd take the items off and have my friend press the bushings out then in. Looking experiences with shops and what their prices were.

Which bushings are you going to replace? I did all of the bushings in my garage, I can do it if you want.
