7 Stock 16 is over- How was it for you.
What could be better?
What was not so good? How was it for you? |
The raffle was way to long
|
Only thing I thought odd is they opened at 8 and had the cars line up in the parking lot. Then didn't have the cars line up and park in the event until after 10. People were missing out on demo racing on the big track as everyone sat in the parking lot. Had they had the cars for the show come earlier and ready to enter at 8 when it opened for the general public it would have been a better experience. Other then that for my first sevenstock it was awesome meeting so many other rotary enthusiast.
|
The only car that crashed today was a Mustang.
|
cant wait for the datsun swapmeet tomorrow morning lol
|
My car didn't break, so it was great for me.
It was dumb that they stopped letting non Mazdas in prior to the parade. People had to wait 45 mins to get in because they stopped traffic into the infield. |
great event. Had a blast! Havnt been since Sevenstock 9. Decent turnout of cars...Seems less than SS9. But still really good! Vendors were great. And good choices for food!
And you cant beat seeing iconic Mazda racecars tearing up the track! Nothing sweeter than a 4-rotor popping off the rev limiter! |
I Want pictures and videos!!!!
|
I had fun and got to meet a lot of new people and people i knew through instagram. The whole parking stuff in the beginning was a nightmare, but once we got in it was all good. The guy doing the raffle took waaay to long and talked a little too much haha but it was a great first sevenstock for me and I can't wait to be back next year and see all my new socal friends again!
|
A little disorganized at first but the rest of the day went well.
|
glad I got to stop by... I arrived around 2:30-3pm and saw JTP in the green FC dip out and my girlfriend mentions "dudeeee I've seen that guy before... he used to lan it at my old work place (NETFRAGZ)"... if you see this JTP, u been there before? hehe
park and walk towards the screaming track and I see Fris rippin' it up with Lil' Red  man it was nice seeing that guy still doing what he loves... I wouldnt have wanted to sell my old wheels to anyone else haha :icon16: was an awesome site for me considering I've been away from the rotary scene, and being there at the event reminded me why I fell in love with RX7s in the first place... shame on me for being m.i.a. :banghead: but any rotary gathering (especially with a race track) is an automatic :icon_tup: I hope I get my ish together for whenever 7stock is going to be at Laguna Seca!! LOL |
Great experience, raffle was bad (not anouncer but I bought tickets and was told by raffle staff they would my prize if I won. I had to go onto track for my session and ended up giving away my tickets). Thanks to bern and all the guys. It was well organized and lots of fun.
On track my fd cooling setup seems to be perfect now Water 87c max (sr motorsports rad plus ghetto ducting Oil 190f max. Probe in the oil pan. R1 duals Air. 47c max. Asp medium |
I personally would not have missed the DJ with all the Fuc# and Ni##er noise.
Made it hard to have a causal conversation without yelling at times. |
SS16 was great! I really appreciate that it was later in the year as sept/oct can make for a hot drive out from AZ. I liked the venue in terms of amenities (but why can no track ever have shade?), and I really liked the food trucks.
What I think was better last year is the way the track last year can be seen from anywhere in the show. Auto Club Speedway was nice but you just can't see much from the infield. I would have liked to be able to see the rotaries out there ripping it up without having to go up on seats above the pit lane. |
Great show ..big thanks to bern n mazda and all the helpers. Gotta get on the track next year

Made it hard to have a causal conversation without yelling at times. Couldn't agree more on the VOLUME level of the music. Half of what they were blasting out would have been more than adequate. My favorite times of the day were when the 4 rotors were running on the track and the PA system was shut down. Made it painful to buy tee shirts or raffle tickets and be within 30 feet of the stage. Other than that, enjoyed finally meeting Turbojeff and others that I've corresponded with for years. Props for continuing to bring us the event!!! |
Thanks for all the input guys... there were a few first time venue and partner issues, but it got done. We apologize for the morning situation... we were coordinating with SpeedVentures staff and they seemed a bit overwhelmed and not so ready.
By the way... just in case, I am the guy on the mic for the raffle... we know it takes a bit, but just standing up there calling numbers for oil, can get extremely boring, so there needs to be a little life. If you'd like to volunteer to call a bit next year, just reach out to me. Thanks Motoron, we agree with the music selection and volume... adjustments will be made for future events. I personally asked them to lower the volume a few times. unamedhero1120, there was no "DEMO GROUP" racing until 12:00noon... so no one missed anything, just as FYI. The unfortunate delay in the morning was also a matter of late vendor arrivals and set-ups inside, but we learned a few things, so all good for a future event. NOW... here is the main issue where people could help... When we requested for SS volunteers this year, we got a WHOPPING ONE (1) that is ONE person! That guy turned out to be killer, but really guys ONE! We were short by about at least 10 people, yet we still pulled it off half decently. If you don't know SevenStock is a NOT FOR PROFIT purely volunteer proposal... for anyone working the event, including myself. Next year, if you want to make a difference, the biggest thing one can do is VOLUNTEER! --Bern |
I thought it was great... This was my first Sevenstock and definitely won't be my last!
I did not notice till after the event the final parking arrangements. I wished I would have seen that sooner because I parked my trailer and pitted my race car out in the North parking lot (used to NASA racing).... far away from the comraderie of fellow RX7 guys. All in all this was really a great event. Any small issues were way outweighed by all the good ones! Please keep the track event! I really like the track at Fontana. Also someone mentioned not being able to see the race from where the cars were parked... if you move some of the event closer to the north parking lot (about 100 feet north of the garages), you get a full view of the 2nd fastest straight on the track! An event like this make glad I live in Chino (about 15 minutes from the track), I feel sorry for my Buddies John and Keith who made the trek from Texas just to be there!... with that being said, they said they will be back again next year! |

= ) New Venue, small problems, still pulled off an AMAZING EVENT! Adjustments will always be made if we have it next year...This event isn't funded by Elon Musk or Steve Ballmer.
We started months ago, worked on Friday into the night, got 4 hours of sleep, woke up at 4am, and drove 55 miles (some more) to pull this off... VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOMED, message me! Reasons to Volunteer: 1. I'll let you park wherever you want! (within reason) 2. You will be in the lot at 6am. 3. We get you breakfast! ALL YOU CAN EAT, coffee and donuts. 4. We even give you a discount on the event TShirt! 5. Lunch is FREE99! 6. If you're friendly and have skills, you can work the Raffle too, while we grab a quick bite to eat. -Andy Taking names/phone #s for next year. Who wants to be #1? just a glimpse, but we still haven't laid out cones in this lot yet... moRE work! The RE NATIONAL FLAG was just rolled out, and I wanted a quick pic. https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1384271963 |
my first 7stock event as a spectator. as usual, socal7 did a fantastic job. i think there were more vendors this year.
|
For a guy that just showed up and took it all in, props to everyone. The event was at the same level it has always been. I have no complaints; if I did I would need to get my sorry ass involved and do some of the work myself. So great job. It was nice that you tied it in with a track event at such a great venue. Had a blast. The only negative was whinny California racers--"I couldn't get by on a point-by because his car was too powerful". Seriously?!! I honestly think I would be embarrassed to admit that. Man-up dude! Quit complaining or use the hot pits. See you at the next one all.

Nice try bro, but not a chance. Your sweet commentary is "music to my ears." I drive from Phoenix to Sevenstock each and every year to attend my SoCal Rotary Family Reunion. When it comes to the raffle, no one but BERN will do!! :)

I think that the stage area was a little under used. Instead of a DJ only there could have been other things like q&a with the mazda reps, model show off/competition, maybe some of the venders or garages could have taken the mic a little. It might have broken up the day a little more if there were things going on at the stage at different times that I might have made my way over to the stage for a little bit then continue to wonder around.

Hey y'all... Another year down and a pretty fun one at that. It was my first year attending with neither my own car nor a vendor booth (tried hard to finish the former, ended up not being ready for the later.) Bah...
That said, in general I thought the event was great. Two points of feedback on the "we could do better front": 1) I arrived kinda late and found that general public attendees where being parked outside the grandstand ring. That made for a big hike with quite a bit of gear in my case. After that finding that the inside "non rotary" parking just past the autocrossers was only 1/3 full was a bit of an unpleasant surprise. Not a big deal but anyways... 2) Ride alongs seemed pretty ad hoc. Maybe I missed it as I was helping shake down a car and wasn't that near the stage, but I've liked it when they had a formal list of volunteer cars to take two flying laps then pit and then pick up a new passenger. Personally, I can say that that's an area of volunteerism I'd be glad to help with. If you're not in competition mode (I have a street car), I think that's a pretty awesome way to share the joy of one of the cool beasties we all build. Anyways, your dedication to the event is admirable. The food trucks were outstanding this year. Long lines but the pulled pork sandwich I ended up with was genuinely good. Solid turnout and great weather. Being slightly later in the year is probably a good call on that front. There's be a few years past where the heat in September was brutal. -Joel Payne |
In terms of volunteerism, do you divide it up into shifts? I could maybe come help the night before (pending location), but day of I'm usually tied up either on track or at a booth. It's easier to commit to one thing without giving away your full day (setup, teardown, etc.)
Since I'm thinking out loud here, a couple ideas of further volunteer hook ups that maybe be done without too much difficulty (since let's be frank, most folks tend to act in their own self interest): -Volunteer preferred parking lane? IE, get your car at the head of the class an hour before everyone else, if you are then willing volunteer to guide the parade in, tear down at the end of the day etc. I think this is pretty close to the "let you park wherever you want" comment. -Special photo ops with the race cars or the volunteer's car front of the stage? IE Who wouldn't want a shot with their car with Mazda race car's on each side? You could do it while volunteers parade in. I've seen a few shots of folks sitting in the 787B cropping up on FB. -Special behind the scenes Mazda info? -Special ride alongs with a pro driver? If you found a way to make this in a 4 rotor car I swear you'd be turning volunteers away with a stick. Can't remember if any of those have two seats, but you get the idea. -Free raffle tickets, or hell just their choice of a raffle item valued under $20 (rx7 book, detailing gear, or whatever). |
volunteer....expecting something in return is "wrong" in my book. I would volunteer but it never go right with my work schedule (no back up or assistant to handle my accounts while im out of the office)
|
^ I agree with this guy...volunteering should not automatically mean that you get something out of the deal. Besides you already said early lot access and free breakfast...that's more than enough in my book
|
A fine event this year, gents. I mostly hung with the track folk this year (had some friends running) but backed and forthed several times to see what was up all over. Excellent turnout, apparently.
It was good to be able to sleep in before a show, for once - - never get enough sleep during the week these days. Got there right at 8, looked like a lot of people never got the "don't be early" memo, but I think still I ended up mid-mob by the time all was said and done. The staging delay was a bit awkward but that looks to just have been new-venue shakedown issues, and we all had fun re-meeting out there. Looking forward to hanging my banner up in the garage this weekend - - excellent souvenir idea, that. Shirts look excellent, too. The coolish weather was greatly appreciated, too. Been to that venue a few times for MazFest in the hot part of summer. Not nearly as nice. Good selection of food choices, too. Lines only got a bit long at peak rush from what I could see, and the prices were not out of line with 'venue' costs for events. Only actual criticism / improvement item I have to offer is this: Cars shows are great. Barbecues are great. Letting people set up a major barbecue right in the middle of a car show, two or three feet from where others have to park their carefully prepped cars? Not great. My car ended up covered, inside and out, with barbecue grease that I'm still trying to get off, & I didn't even get the worst of it. The guy parked to the right of my car, the nice white FB, had so much grease on his hatch glass it looked frosted. He was made to park all of a foot or two from the 'Q. I was almost as close but the breeze was more in my favor. https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...0.jpg~original The folks who had the barbecue were apologetic about it, & they were set up well before the rest of the cars got directed there, so I can't really fault them -- BBQs were permitted. But the rest of us didn't have any choice of where to park. Next time, please either have a dedicated barbecue/picnic area at least a few dozen feet or so away from the show area, or make some provision so that people's show-prepped cars don't get covered with other people's food grease? Sorry to gripe, but you know how hard I've worked to get and keep this car pristine. I'm facing several hours of work to clean this up. Overall, a good event. Even with the grease issue, I'm glad I was able to be there again. Looking forward to next year! |

I thought it was a great event but you need to get the track day sorted out earlier so we can get more rotaries on the track. Maybe a better price for the track day or something. It would be awesome to have an all rotary track event at sevenstock.

You're right. Rotorheads are mostly broke and like to procrastinate.

--Bern I can't fault anyone for not anticipating when I didn't either - - that's why I'm only bringing it up as a "lesson learned for the future." |

Thanks for all of the comments though, we'll take them under consideration if we have it there again next year. Glenn, sorry about your car, I was in that Old School/1st Gen/FD lot parking everyone, I wished I would have known! :( |

I got the exterior cleaned off at last, and the interior didn't get hit too badly (wind was not blowing through the windows I guess), but every bit of chrome, polished aluminum, and painted brightwork in my engine bay now looks like this:
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...e.jpg~original Wiping just smears it around, & I can't use alcohol near the painted portions. Needs dishsoap and rinsing to get it clean. So, lesson learned. |
