Well the preivous owner had some oil leaks fixed and there are a couple left. I want to clean the underside and possibly some of the engine bay of oil. The frame and all under the car has alot on it and thats easy enough to hit w/ a rag, but we all know how tight everything else is. Is there anything I can maby spary on and let sit... then jack up the car and maybe pressure wash off?! There may be no easy solution but if there is one I would REALLY like to use it. I would perfer to get as much of the oil off that I can and then do an oil change and see where the oil comes back. Theres some oil on the rear parts too but I think it just ran from the front back when there were bad leaks.

Is it really that easy!? Just spary the stuff on... let it sit.. and wash it off? Awe... heck.. I should have given that a try . My bad... thanks a bunch for your assistance!

 

There are a number of ways to do this. You can use the engine bay cleaner stuff...only thing w/ that is you have to make sure to disconnect the battery and cover parts like the alternator w/ a tarp. Then you can hose your engine. ALSO...you can use Simple Green.

If you are looking to clean from the underside of the car...you can use brake cleaner or carb cleaner. IMPORTANT note: make sure your car is cold. Both of these chemicals are great for cutting grease and oil, but DO NOT get these on your paint.

 

I always go to the carwash and spray their "engine degreaser" under the car. I know it doesn't work as good but it has more pressure then my water hose.

 

I have a leak on the rear main seal, and I cleaned the pan under the engine with Castrol Super Clean. I didn't know the pan was mettalic looking! Damn, I just sprayed on and rinsed, no rubbing or anything. The stuff works like a champ.

 

Be careful w/ the Castrol Super Clean. DO NOT get it on aluminum! It will ruin the finish. I got careless w/ the stuff by spraying it in the engine and it ruinned the finish on my Cusco OS strut tower bar. Now, I have to get my bar repolished. Oh well...you live and learn.

 

Dom, try some "Seapower" aluminum polish on the strut brace, available at boating supply stores. Comes as a yellow paste in a can, and is stronger than Mothers.

I would find a pressure wash place with a lift or pit underneath.
If the car had serious oil leaks, carefully inspect your turbo water coolant hoses for oil coating. Motor oil softens up rubber and can lead to hose rupture, trust me. If they are soft, replace them ASAP, even if the oil is cleaned off.

 

Hmmm... I have never seen a pressure wash place w/ a lift or a pit but man... if I could find one of those that would be the ticket!

Most of the oil is on the underside and below the OMP (from what I can see) and I can see where it travled down to the back of the car. I don't really see any on the turbo side. It's possible that alot is from a bad oil change too... but there IS a leak somwhere because there are a few dots on my driveway.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys... I'll prob end up simple greening my engine bay (because I happen to have some under my sink... that stuff is great) That will help clean all the dust/dirt out of there. Then I'll use something like carb cleaner and climb under and start spraying. Neighbor has a high pressure sprayer too! so I'll use that and wash wash wash.

 

Heck, just get the car up on a set of ramps and use the pressure sprayer with a degreaser solution then. Yer gonna get wet and grungy..

 

Brakeclean or Carb cleaner. But be careful with carb cleaner, because if some of the parts in the engine bay have been painted with high temp paint, it will take the paint off. Brake cleaner from your local parts store will work the best other than carb cleaner.
