Top Speed for 2G RX7 TurboII?

I've looked around for this spec for awhile but haven't found any place saying what it was... some help? Even just a stock 7t2.

thanks

My '89 T2 has been up to 163mph. Of course that was on a top speed dyno run. It could go higher with the gearing from the factory, but the operator had me shut it down. Amazing how fast you can go without drag.

GTX does 151 out of the box.

Light mods and you can do 160. I've had mine to 155 and was still pulling slowly and had to shut down (ran out of room). This was not on a dyno.

Thanks for the info and input... I take it there is no official number given out by Mazda for it? That would make sense as I haven't seen anything... Well, who wants to post their top speeds (who has the fastest 2g rex here, anyways?)?

Talking

Actually there is an "official" top speed from Mazda for the TII, and its 235kph "real" (something like 255kph on the speedo). I've had mine up to 230kph, and I could feel that I had at least 20kph more to gain...if I had more room And thats pure stock. With minor mods (DP, catback, filter, TID mod) you should very well be above the 270kph Thats "supercar" territory babeeeeee.....

Yeah, how the hell are we supposed to know how fast we are going if the damn spedometer only goes to 160mph? Not that those things are very accurate...

I knew there should be some official spec for top speed, but I was beginning to not think so. I wonder why its hard to come by (or maybe i'm just looking in the wrong places... i've searched the net, and checked in the 2 RX7 books i just picked up: nothing).

Keep the responses coming... I wanna see how fast you and your cars have gone.

i hit 140+

ran it up to 140mph on flat road, then came the slight downgrade where i hit 142-3, then backed off for safety reasons. road got rough. This was with a passenger, too.

You can use this formula to figure out the gearing-limited speed. Of course, it doesn't take into account drag/weight-limited speed, ECU-limited speed, traction, road grade, wind, etc., but it's a good reference anyway.

mph = ((rear tire circumference in inches) * (Engine RPM)) / ((Transmission gear ratio) * (Rear end gear ratio) * 1056)

Here's an example for a stock 88 TII given:
205/55R16 Tires (78 inch circumference)
7000 Engine RPM
0.762 5th Gear Ratio
4.10 Rear End Gear Ratio

mph = (78 * 7000) / (0.762 * 4.10 * 1056)
mph = 546000 / 3299
mph = 166

Hehehe, well I'm still waiting on some EMS components, so right now I figure that I could push it at about 2mph.

Assuming that the current 88 NA tranny will hold together longer than the initial tuning session (which it probably won't), the car would have a top end of 181mph with the 4.10 rear, or 190mph with the 3.909 rear. I am currently shopping for a good dogring transmission, and maybe a better rear end, with a top speed goal of 240mph. No, it's not a drag car. Yes, it's street legal in Florida.

Hehehe, a car like this is ALWAYS being worked on. :p Here are my current plans:
Stage 1 - Get the freakin' thing running! (almost there-just need IC plumbing and some EMS/Ignition parts)
Stage 2 - Be able to drive it harder than Grandma would (need new tranny, driveshaft hoop, scattershield, and fire extinguishing system)
Stage 3 - Kick butt (need MUCH wider tires and therefore a wide body kit, aerodynamics, and other go-fast stuff)

I wish I had the money, too! I've been working on this project for over 3 years now. In case you don't know, the transmission is going to set me back another $7,000 USD, which works out to nearly two months' pay in my case. Oh, and no, you can't win, because every time that I work extra to make more money, I don't have any time to work on the car.

Yeah, I need to give HKS a call to see how much torque it can take, and see how difficult/expensive it will be to fix. I asked Soul Assassin about it today, so I'll see what he thinks. I'm also looking at the PBS MDR-1 and T-56.

redline is 7000rpm, but isn't revlimiter 7600 for stock ecu? That would be theoretical 180mph speed at revlimiter.

Road and Track has done a few comparisons over the years, there are two books that have several articles with top speeds listed: Road&Track's Guide to the All New Mazda RX-7, it lists 128mph right on the back cover-- consistant with other printed articles I have. The other is a compilation of articles also with some from England, etc., Mazda RX-7 Gold Portfolio (ISBN 1-85520-333-2).

I didn't find any references to top speed in any of the US brochures I have (all from 1979-1993), but in the other two guides I've seen T2's listed at 140-144, depending on the article and NA's listed about 125-128.
