What about an LS1 in a 2nd Gen? Is it the same process, or has this been mulled over before....

Same performance much less $ and you will get more street action with an FC and definately piss more people off when you beat them with a 15 year old car

Can't believe that people are finally saying Hemi. Been saying that for years. Must be the new Chrysler ads:D

Anyone know if the new smaller displacement Hemi is narrower?

How about doing it to an original 67,000 mile CYM, how much would that piss you boneheads off?

projekt 02-21-04 02:49 PM

wait a year and get an LS2 :)

or just do a lot of cutting and put the best v8 ever built into it: the ford modular Dohc

yeah, i said it, what are you gonna do about it!? :)

thant 02-21-04 10:09 PM

Yea that is a great engine, so great that the only way Ford could outpower the LS1 was to put a supercharger on it.

projekt 02-22-04 02:48 PM

actually their 5.0 version made 410, so don't talk about things you know nothing about.

Yea and those engines are readily available as well as cheap, Huh? While Ford production SVT engines are interesting, it still takes a blower for Ford to compete with normal GM production engines. Dollar for dollar you arent going to beat the HP figures of an LS1. Please dont reply, because you would definatly be talking about something that YOU know nothing about.

twint78 02-24-04 06:06 PM

Actually the modular 5.0 made 420hp/crate engine 7k.
GM LS6 405hp/crate engine 6500 dollars.

projekt 02-25-04 01:14 PM

thank you twint.

The LS6 is a 420+ horsepower engine out of the box. Mine made the equivalent of 419 horsepower (355.8 RWHP, ~15% losses) through the stock intake and exhaust, and that's average for '02+ Z06s.

Any car that you can install just an intake on and pick up 20 or more horsepower at the rear wheels is definitely restricted in stock form. With an open intake and headers, the '02+ LS6 is probably around 440-450 horsepower without any other changes. It's also significantly smaller and lighter than any of Ford's modular motors.

projekt 02-25-04 06:34 PM

ARG! % losses......

thant 02-26-04 07:42 AM

Meanwhile Fords 03 Cobra only puts out 360 RWHP with a blower on it. See what I said it takes forced induction to compete with the LS engine.

Or more. :)

A friend's '03 Cobra just put down 395/395 bone stock recently at the same shop I dyno'd my Z06 at. Of course his convertible 6-speed weighs about 9,000 lbs. :D

Must be a screamer, all the ones around here that are stock dyno at 360 to 370. maybe with a pulley swap, or an uncalibrated dyno it would pull 395, but not stock.

The only possibility is that the numbers were uncorrected, because the guy isn't all that familiar with performance cars and this is the first time he's ever had anything worth taking to a dyno, but he's not prone to exaggeration. I know for a fact that his car is absolutely 100% stock as far as the powertrain. He's paranoid about voiding his warranty.

Edit: I just looked up his e-mail... 397 rwhp, 396 rwt.
