v8's and hoods
Any v8's out there running cowl-less hoods? Will they fit?

I'm dropping in a sbc within a month 350 out of my vette,,,,,,,350 hp 450 w NOS,,,,,,,with rock solid reliability,,,,,,,,,,,cant beat that,,,,,,wonder about that hood though
|
yeah they can fit a sbc but u have to select your intake manifold and air cleaner wisely, for real high perf apps u really dont have much of a choice unless ur running EFI. Personally i kinda like a nice cowl hood on 2nd gens. Im a rotary lover but id have to say im more of just a car lover, no V8 bashing necessary. :)

It is true - you can fit in a Chev or Ford small block without modifying the hood, but if you are going for performance, you will most likely end up with a taller intake system, and need to raise the hood locally to cover it. Grannys web site has lots of pictures of the various scoops and bulges people have used. Mine is pretty simple, but does require some bodywork. I found a damaged hood from a 280 Z and cut out the piece I needed. There are photos on the first page of my Car Domain site:

Wow, now that's something you don't see often... someone with 2 posts ripping on a guy with 1. :)
Whether or not you'll need a hood scoop or cowl pretty much depends on whether or not you can afford a modern fuel injected pushrod small block (LT1, LS1, 5.0 etc.) or whether you'll be using a carb. LT1 in an FC... https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...chmentid=71453 LS1 in an FC... https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...chmentid=71454 Carbureted Ford 302 (?) in an SA22C/FB... :) https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...chmentid=71455 |

wow i never noticed the size of your rear tires crash test joey lol.

So far, I think I will do the 5.0.
|
I will have to cut a hole, but i'm cutting at least some of the bracing off to save weight so this will just help. I'm running a 302 with an Eddy RPM II manifold
|
I am running a sbc in my fc and I plan to fabricate a plate to meet up with the scoop on the TII hood. I will have a filter in there as well. It can be done you just have to be creative with your build. heres what I have Sbc with a weiand team G intake for now more tha likely I will be using am RPM performer. It's the debate of single plain or dual plain that has me wondering which intake I will be running. The carb is a Carter AFB 750.

Before a fire claimed my hood I was running a seibon scoote with the webbing cut out the center section on a hinson subframe ls3 with a fast 102 intake manifold, 102 tb, and samberg intake,, fd

I'm running a tunnel ram set up and well performance ment more than looks. Single plain manifolds are awesome with cars with manual transmission and manual brakes. You can run a huge came and not effect anything else... I think you need to decide what your purpose is going to be with the car first. Just remember due to the weight reduction of taking a sbc out of a vette and putting it in a fc you can expect to feel like your are making a extra 100 horses.

any one know if the mazdaspeed hood will clear an ls swapped fd?
|
i know for a fact that a LS6 TB will bang on a SA/FB hood at where I set my motor (most optimal position). So, I ordered a GT350 scoop to go on there
|
I am considering transplanting a carbed 351W into my FC. Hood scoops are in my immediate future if I go that way.

Here's a private party review if you're curious. https://www.rx7club.com/ronin-speedw...-hood-1014077/ |

I had to cut a small triangle into my hood. Just couldn't get it down far enough. Just the mesh of the air filter sticks through.
Still don't know if I'm going to run it as is or put a scoop over it. |
Don't use those filters. If you back fire, you have a big chance of catching the filter element on fire. Just keeping an eye out.
|
my ls1 fits under my fd's hood fine. i had to trim a little piece of re-enforcement under the hood now that i have put a larger throttle body on the motor
