MN V8 Swap Options for 1985

Hi so I have been looking at V8 swaps since I want a fast RX7. I have been looking at a bunch of different threads, forums and FAQ and I have a few starting questions.

For engine choices, I'm mainly looking at Chevy Small Blocks specifically the all aluminum ones. Such as L33 and LM4. I was wondering if you can get me feed back on my plan.

L33 5.3L V8(310hp, 335ft/lb)-$1000

LM4 5.3L V8(290hp, 325ft/lb)-$600

both engines are from junk yards with warranties.

Next question I'm looking for transmission for sure a manual such as T5 or if I can find a T56 for under $1500.

Then for swap materials looking at Granny Speed Shop Basic Kit with driveshaft.

Please let me know

Thanks

Either of the 5.3s are nice choices. I did the LS1 in my FB (not quite done) because I already had the motor and 4l60e. Best of luck.

I'm actually looking into the LQ9s which are 6.0L V8s(345hp, 385TQ). I figured the weight savings is pretty minor considering that the extreme increase in power it will have. They are around $1200 and have much more potential such as boost applications due to the iron block.

I myself planned on putting a small block into my rx-7 until I realized I'd be saving pennies for a while

I met a guy who did an L33 swap, and he had told me that it's not an easy swap if you dont want to cut into your firewall, considering the only kit out there is from grannys speed shop. He also said he really didn't like how they have the engine placed in there, and because of that he made custom mounts. Other than that I don't have much to add.

We're both from MN as well, I didn't know there were so many RX-7s out in MN!

Was the L33 swap on a bronze first gen? I'm looking at 6.0 LQ4 from a Denali for $700. I like that these engines can take LSx parts such as intake and accessories. I have to wait until next winter to do the swap since I really want to have my rx7 for the summer even though the temptation to do the swap will always be there.
