Steel is good!
I needed about 1.5 inches, used a piece from a damaged 280Z hood. The bulge from an Eclipse hood would also work. The hood bulge was the easiest part of my project. Photos shown here:

I was hoping not to modify the hood on mine by using the shortest intake I could find, the 7515 X-celerator - it's a little more than 1/2" shorter than your RPM. I guess now I'll have to cut the hood to get the 13" Ford drop-base aircleaner to fit... Is your crossmember reversed so the doublehump oilpan straddles it? If yes, how far above the crossmember is your oilpan? thanks Russ :pat: |

ok, totally dumb question that is totally off subject. what do you guys mean by "crossmember reversed"? I can't visualize how this would work and maintain rack mounting geometry. Help me to understand this with some pics. Thanks. Also I should say I have an FC.

When I researched my project, I found a Wieand manifold that was lower than anything else I saw.
On my car, I cut the center section out of the crossmember, reversed it and welded it back in, with the welds just inboard of the frame rails. This moves the crossmember a little more aft than reversing the crossmember, because the mount bolts are not symmetrical. I used a front sump oil pan, and had to trim it a bit to clear the crossmember. You can see the welds in the attached photo, and also the joggle in my sway bar to clear the pulleys. If you need this done, any muffler shop can recontour it in their tube bender. |
Thanks. I thought your engine had some decent clearance from the firewall. I guess I'll find out soon enough.
Skyburner - using a 302 with a Mustang double-hump pan in a 1st Gen/FB and Granny's mounts, you have to reverse the crossmember so it fits between the two humps. http://www.torquecentral.com/showthread.php?t=14503 |
But not in an FC? I have searched both forums on this and found nothing to say yes or no on it. Thanks.

Doesn't the Granny's FC/SBF kit come with a complete engine cradle?
