T5 to fb rx7 driveshaft question
Hello,
I have never done this swap but am looking into the main parts I would need. I am on a pretty tight budget. I saw that the grannysspeedshop.com kit for the ford 302 is very well priced. If I get the basic kit W/O driveshaft will I need to cut or make an adapter for the stock driveshaft so that it fits with the t5? If so, how would one go about doing this? Thanks, Evan |
You will need to put a T5 slip yoke on the front of the driveshaft. I bought a used grannys shaft off of my friend and it ended up needing a new slip yoke. I found a local shop to put a new one on and shorten the shaft for $140. You probably could find a shop near you to do the same.
There is no adapter plate that could be made for the T5 to mazda transmission since it is a slip yoke style attachment |
get the old T5 shaft and the Old FB shaft.
Use the T5 yoke and the FB diff shaft flange. measure the distance from trans to diff flange and get a drive shaft shop to make you one. |
Thanks for the advice guys.

I wouldn't recommend the granny's drive shaft anyway. I bought it for my swap and found to my chagrin that they didn't balance the shaft. It was 1/4" too long too boot. So i had to take it to a driveline shop and get it modified anyway. I got it to work but it probably was quite a bit more expensive than what is being recommended above. Just buy the T5 one and mod it.
