Hinson supercars TT ls1 rx-7 made a few passes tonight
They are in Memphis at the hot rod magazine annual pump gas drag event. The car went 9.65 @ 144mph on 93 octane. The car is ridiculous and will prolby go faster tommorow after they do some more tuning.
|
holy smokes! thats quick!
|
no video???
I saw it run at Deal's Gap last month, and there are a couple vids of that around here. |
The bigger question is what are other people running in their practice runs? It'll be interesting to see how Brian fares.
|
if they plan on competing then they better pack up and go home.
|
Yea they werent close to most of the cars there. But they were still doing alot of tuning to the car so hopefully they will get closer to the times of the big block big turbo cars that were there. Most of the other cars were in the low 9s to 8.8 was the fastest pass I saw. And supposedly there will be a TT viper that runs 8.60s. The real competition though will be the actual drive to the track that could put alot of the big block turbo cars out of it and even the field a bit.
|
Damn, 8.8 is moving! I can't even imagine piloting an 8.6 run. 9.6 is impressive, but if other cars are running high 8s he'll look like he's standing still.
|
Yea right now they don't have much of a chance. But the 20-30 mile drive in 80-90 degree weather and slow traffic could even the playing field by alot.

Now I want some video! |

Based on the MPH and assuming 3000lbs he's making around 700hp. Past halfway to 1200 now.
What makes anyone think a big block turbo car would have any more problem than Brian on the transit part of the event? Depending on the car they probably have a lot better cooling system, not a strong point of the RX7. Anyway best of luck to him in the event, the 1200hp people have been saying the motor will make should improve the ET's a lot so he might win yet. Kevin P.S. What ET and MPH does Ari run in his 13b? |

Damn. I will love to see some videos.
Best of luck to Brian and his team of Hinsonsupercars |
Ya if he gets around 1200 HP he will at around the same HP shep is getting with his DSM single turbo 4 Banger. Shep is currently running 8s in his heavy AWD Talon with a 4 banger so I hope this joker can pull off 7s. Otherwise he really did not accomplish anything that smaller engined imports have not already been doing. Which would have made this whole thing way over hyped. Also Ari has now run 9.1 there is video in the forum here somwhere. Rotary Performance stated that they should be in the 8s by summers end. Anyway 9.65 by Hinnson is still fast and 8s is way fast. I am just not as impressed with a twin turbo LS1 running those times or HP #s as I am with a 4 banger DSM with a stock bottom end :). If I ever do a swap it will be with a DSM 2.0L or a import turbo 6 cyl. Not to mention it would be a more original swap plus keep that import sound with the import look. 9 and 8 second cars are fast no matter what, the matter of how it is achieved is another. If one guy can do it with a turbo 4 banger and another does it with a turbo V8 I will take my hat off to the guy with the turbo 4 banger. Eitherway that is a fast time. I will have to Email Rocky over at Rotary Performance and let him know the V8 swappers are gonna try to over run his impressive street car.
|
But the thing you don't get usmcjsy is the brian can drive his 1200hp ls1 with no problem on the street and 9.6@144 isn't bad for a car that you can drive everyday on pump gas. Try doing that with a 4 banger or rotary.
|
Yes.yes.yes. exactly. I hate when they compare two different motors with different type of specs.

I like the 4g63s a lot. I have a buddy with an AWD talon that's building a 2.3L stroker after his motor took a shit on him. The car is a ton of fun to toss around. Real good power potential with that motor too (there are some sick numbers with the new evos), though they can be damn finicky as well. |
Shep is not running a stock bottom end nor, MORE IMPORTANTLY, are his times on pump gas. Its a full blown AWD race car and not street driven even though it probably could be/used to be. Cant really compare the too. Im biased to the 4G63...well 4G63/64 hybrid but they dont compare to LS1s. But we have gotten off topic.

As much as I have always been against the "swap". I have been really considering it lately. As much as I love the rotary, Im starting to see a LS1 in my future. Consider me another convert.

Then you can also take care of me in person for calling you a tool :) Then I can show you what us tool Jarheads know. Dont be all pissed cuz I called you a tool either. I am just returning the favor. Also he is running 9.4 on pump gas....? I dont belive it. The new Vette which is lighter, less HP then Hinsons RX7 runs 11.7 in the 1/4 and its recommend to run 94 octane. In ND 94 octane is not even available at the pump. So I highly doubt he is running 94 or less octane in his car. He may be running pump but when he is running pump he is far from 9.6 or 9.4 or whatever. Then he is probably closer to high 11s low 12s. I will give you this though Turbogarrett your right I do somtimes just stir stuff up with the V8 crowd, even somtimes knowing damn well I am wrong. Just as I see the V8 crowd doing it with us rotary enthusiasts. Its all in fun so lighten up.
Jeremy Oh ya wingsfan check out Sheps web page www.shepracing.com.
